Yokohama is Macau Grand Prix tyre supplier for 32nd consecutive year

The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd. is once again supply its Advan racing tyres to the Macau Grand Prix to be held in Macau, China from 13 to 16 November.

The 61st Macau Grand Prix marks Yokohama’s 32nd year as exclusive tyre supplier for the Formula 3 race. The Macau Grand Prix event also includes the final rounds of the 2014 FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) and GT Asia, for which Yokohama will also supply control tyres, as well as numerous other support races, with many of the participating vehicles equipped with Yokohama tyres.

The Macau Grand Prix, run on public roads in the city center, is one of the world’s most famous road races. Yokohama began supplying control tyres for the race in 1983, when Formula 3 vehicles meeting international regulations were adopted. Because the race is held on public roadways, participating cars require tyres that provide high performance on surfaces and conditions typical of normal driving conditions, which are quite different from those found on circuit racetracks. The Formula 3 race, the main event of the Macau Grand Prix, is considered to be the decisive race of the F3 season, as it often determines the F3 world champion. Many past winners and other top finishers, including Michael Schumacher and the late Ayrton Senna, have gone on to successful careers in Formula 1 racing. This year’s race will feature 28 of the top F3 drivers from around the world, including three from Japan.

Yokohama became the series’ official tyre supplier to the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) in 2006 and has committed to supporting WTCC races for the 10-year period through 2015. The GT Asia series, featuring FIA GT3 regulation cars, holds races in Republic of Korea, Japan, Malaysia, and China (Shanghai) before the series-culminating Macau GT Cup, one of the many Macau Grand Prix events.

Tyres & Accessories experienced the event first hand two years ago (see “Thrills and spills in Macau”), when the company also launched the Advan V105 high performance tyre.
