BFGoodrich plant layoffs announced

Just over a month after the ratification of a new three-year contract covering workers at BFGoodrich’s Tuscaloosa tyre factory in the US, a statement issued by parent company Michelin North America has outlined a number of layoffs that will take place at the plant.

“To help align production and inventory with current market demand for BFGoodrich passenger and light truck tyres, BFGoodrich Tire Manufacturing will begin implementing today an indefinite layoff of less than ten per cent of its workforce at its Tuscaloosa, Alabama plant,” read the statement. Michelin North America added that details regarding the layoff’s implementation are now being finalised.

According to information published by Michelin North America, the Tuscaloosa plant currently employs 1,420 people and produces passenger and light truck tyres. The details of the contract ratified on 27 August have not been made public.
