Online retailer sees UK winter tyre sales “comparable to Denmark”

Date: 29th November 2011 Author: Tyrepress Editors Comments: 0

A new online tyre retailer in the UK has reported that sales and enquiries about winter tyres have exceeded its expectations, with “sales that are comparable to Denmark”. Goodgrip.co.uk launched in the UK market in October and is a trading name of Bythjul Norden AB, which has a presence in the Nordic markets dating back to 2001 selling over half a million tyres, and recently launching in Germany.

Goodgrip identifies recent prime time television advertising campaigns from Continental and Michelin as one source of the rising national awareness of winter tyres. Its comparison of the UK and Denmark – a more mature market for winter tyres, albeit with a population an eleventh that of the UK – is interesting, given that winter tyres are not compulsory there, even though it has a cooler climate than much of the UK. Goodgrip has been established in Denmark for several years and says the practice of switching to winter tyres is far more common.

Goodgrip says that in spite of the exceptional demand for winter tyres, it does not have any concerns over supply since its warehouse currently stocks “over 40,000 winter tyres”. The company calls itself an “expert in winter tyres”, with a range and supply “that can’t be bettered in the UK”. Goodgrip sold nearly 100,000 winter tyres in Scandinavia (Norway, Sweden and Denmark) last year.
