Axle Group Holdings orders 60-strong Sprinter fleet

Date: 18th October 2011 Author: Admin Comments: 0

Axle Group Holdings’ Viking Wholesale Tyres and Equipment and fast-fitter National Tyres and Autocare have invested in new Mercedes Sprinter fleets, in an order totalling 60 vans, according to Materials Handling World Magazine. The order of the fuel-efficient Euro 5 Sprinters will be completed by Glasgow’s Western Commercial.

Viking will take most of the new vans, having operated the German manufacturer’s vans for 20 years, using them in the distribution chain from its eight nationwide warehouses to retailers, dealerships and other customers. The other 23 will be equipped to fit tyres and balance wheels, with tyre-fitting machines, wheel balancers and compressors, for use by National Tyres and Autocare; the first Mercedes-Benz vans to be operated by the 200-plus branch company.

Stewart Mackenzie, logistics manager for both businesses told the magazine that the Sprinter had been “extremely reliable and economical” for Viking, as well as being popular with its drivers in terms of comfort, and market-leading in terms of safety.
