Micheldever Signs Five-Year Exclusive Distribution Deal with Kumho

Date: 12th July 2006 Author: Admin Comments: 0

Micheldever Tyre Services Ltd (MTS), the UK’s largest independent tyre distribution company, has signed a five-year distribution agreement with the UK arm of the leading Korean manufacturer, Kumho Tires. The distribution deal is the company’s first ever long-term agreement in the UK tyre market and gives MTS exclusive rights over Kumho’s portfolio of car, 4×4 and van products in Great Britain.

The announcement marks the culmination of a successful nine-year association between the two companies. Over the last three years, they have been developing the Ecsta Performance Centre (EPC) programme, dedicated to specialist Kumho tyre sales and support.

According to Micheldever EPC is already the largest and fastest-growing independent tyre retailer network in the UK, serviced by a nationwide distributor. The network currently comprises 321 retail outlets and is expected to peak at around 450 during 2007. The EPC programme supports the dealer members by including a significant investment in training, web development, sales staff, customer workshops and marketing including advertising, mailshots and the management of promotional goods.

According to Paul Fox, chief executive, Micheldever Tyres: “This agreement reinforces the long-term commitment of both companies to the UK tyre industry. Kumho’s product range is exceptional and continues to grow in quality and performance, now incorporating the latest run-flat technology. We look forward to continuing to play a key role in the future in building the value of the Kumho brand.”

Steve Tidmarsh, managing director, Kumho Tyre (UK) said: “UK sales have grown dramatically since 2002. Much of this success is down to MTS’ philosophy of providing the best service level and availability through its nationwide distributor network. This contract gives us the opportunity to take our presence in the UK up another level.”

Tony Bryan, chairman of the EPC dealer council commented: “This agreement represents a true landmark for the independent tyre retailers within the EPC network. EPC is undoubtedly the most professional support programme available to independent tyre retailers and MTS is the premier service provider in UK tyre distribution. The combination of the outstanding Kumho range and high-quality EPC network provides retailers with a package that meets customer needs.”
