In the last couple of years Michelin has taken several strategic steps towards its goal of occupying a leading position in the online tyre retail channel. Click2Sell (pictured) appears to the latest part of that strategy.

Michelin has launched Click2Sell – a website solution the company refers to as “a flexible ‘website in a box’ that helps dealers build their online presence and attract new customers with ease”.

While wholesalers have done similar things, Click2Sell is believed to be the only tyre manufacturer-backed website-building package to allow dealerships in the UK and Ireland the freedom to promote their chosen tyre range online. And, what’s more, the range can be either primarily Michelin tyres or a premium competitor. Click2Sell is open to any dealership.

The initial service is available now, with Michelin Auto Professional dealerships enjoying a discounted rate, and the support of the Michelin team both during and after the set-up process.

Nick Gilbert, digital marketing manager at Michelin, said: “We want to help independent tyre dealerships around the country get the best from the online marketplace, win new customers, and boost revenue. With our Click2Sell offer, it’s easy for a dealership to develop a strong online presence, and they don’t need to have any prior digital experience to get up and running fast.”

Once a dealership’s initial Click2Sell website is online, the dealer can add additional applications, including pay-in-store stock reservation, and upsell services such as air conditioning recharging and wheel alignment through an online appointment booking system.

In January 2016 Michelin piloted the direct sale of its Pilot Sport 4 tyres in France. The manufacturer also sells direct to consumers in America.

The Click2Sell website announcement follows the purchase of Blackcircles back in May 2015. That purchase came at a time when Michelin was also investing heavily in online tyre sales in France via the purchase of 40 per cent of the French Allopneus e-tailer.
