Camping and Caravanning Club hitches up to TyreSafe

TyreSafe has welcomed The Camping and Caravanning Club as the latest organisation to become a supporter of its road safety campaigning activities.

As the world’s oldest club for lovers of camping and caravan getaways, The Camping and Caravanning Club represents the interests of more than half a million members. As such, its involvement in TyreSafe campaigns is set to raise awareness about the importance of correctly maintained tyres among the UK’s 650,000 caravan and motorhome owners.

“We’re delighted to join forces formally with The Camping and Caravanning Club and strengthen the great work we’ve already done together,” comments Stuart Jackson, chairman, TyreSafe. “A careful tyre inspection routine is especially important when towing a caravan or driving a motorhome that may only be used occasionally, and The Camping and Caravanning Club’s support for TyreSafe will ensure that its members benefit from vital tyre safety advice. Not only will this help to raise the profile of safe tyres within the camping and caravan community; it will also help to educate motorists and bring down the number of tyre related road casualties.”

With more than 5,000 tyre-related towing incidents recorded by fellow supporter the Highways Agency in 2013, the Camping and Caravanning Club joins a number of major road safety organisations who share concerns about tyre safety issues and support TyreSafe’s activities, such as the Chief Fire Officers Association and the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency.

As a supporter of TyreSafe, the Camping and Caravanning Club will have access to a wealth of resources to help it educate its members on a host of tyre safety topics such as correct inflation when towing, adequate tread depth and part worn tyres. Meanwhile TyreSafe will have the opportunity to involve caravan and motorhome drivers in its ongoing road safety campaigns.

Robert Louden MBE, Director General of The Camping and Caravanning Club, said: “The only thing standing between your car, caravan or motorhome and the road is your tyres. The very latest information on how to check and maintain them is invaluable to Club members, so we’re delighted to support TyreSafe, and applaud the work it does to raise awareness around this issue.”
