Yokohama’s commitment to motorsport in its many different forms has been illustrated in a busy July schedule that included touring cars, rallying and endurance racing. The brand is the official supplier to the FIA World Touring Car Championship, which visited Donington on 16-17 July for its UK leg. Yokohama supplied drivers at the recent FIA European Touring Car Cup in Salzburg, Austria, on 23-24 July, where Fabrizio Giovanardi clinched the title with a victory and a second-place finish in the Austrian rain.
Hankook Tire has launched a new micro site dedicated to its motorsport activities and engagements. Alongside reports and information on the various Hankook-sponsored championships, including the DTM(Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters), Le Mans, VLN, Super GT, Formula D, Time Attack Series and CRC (China Rally Championship), motorsport fans will find images and videos plus downloadable wallpaper images. Long time participant in the Nürburgring 24 Hour race, the Falken Motorsport Team has decided to run a GT3 R specification Porsche 911 on 25-26 June. The high performance tyre manufacturer says its decision to switch to the Porsche follows a successful history of campaigning Japanese sports cars in the ADAC Zurich 24-Hour Race and ties in with increasing activity of the brand in the region. Falken says the race “will be used to develop the next generation of Falken tyres.”
A new man is heading up Hankook Tire’s motorsport activities in Europe. Manfred Sandbichler, who has almost 20-years’ tyre industry experience under his belt and joined the company’s German division in 2003, was named manager of Motorsports on March 15.
Toyo Tire & Rubber Co., Ltd. will participate in the next round of the VLN at the Nürburgring continuing their race tyre development programme. As in the recent Millenium Merdeka race at Sepang, the “Lammertink Racing with Toyo Tires” team will be working with Toyo engineers to further develop their race tyres. Lammertink will use their Porsche 997 GT3 race car fitted with 245/640R18 front tyres and 285/680R18 rears against the very experienced “Ringmeisters” of the VLN series. Lammertink will use Proxes RS1 if the conditions are dry with Proxes RR1 wets available if it rains.
