Transaid has been awarded funding of £1.83 million from Comic Relief to run its largest ever project, which will provide vital access to maternal health services in Zambia. It follows just months after Transaid secured its first ever grant from Comic Relief; £1 million to set up a five-year Emergency Transport Scheme in Adamawa State, Nigeria.
A Michelin employee and his family are preparing to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in a bid to raise vital funds for international development charity Transaid. Guy Heywood, commercial director of Michelin’s UK truck and bus tyre division, will be joined by his wife Helen and sons Max and Joe on the six day climb. At only 11 years and 11 months old, Joe would be the youngest ever Briton to reach the summit of the mountain, making the trip extra special for the family.
A team of 12 cyclists from Michelin’s Commercial, solutions and manufacturing departments in the UK are making final preparations for one of their toughest cycling challenges yet when they take on the first two stages of the Tour de France Grand Départ 2014. Swapping their business suits for padded lycra shorts, the team will attempt to ride 391 km over three days between 6 – 8 June in aid of the University Hospital of North Staffordshire (UHNS). The route, from Leeds to Harrogate, and then York to Sheffield, will see them climb more than 22,000 ft – the equivalent of nearing the summit of Mount Everest, or climbing Ben Nevis five times.
