Continental Launches Commercial ‘Revolution’

Continental Tire North America plans to “improve the product, service and training offerings to commercial vehicle tyre customers” though its new Continental Revolution program. The new project was launched this week at the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Kentucky. Part of the program was the launch of five new medium truck radials (see separate story), and “new programs designed to reduce overall driving cost and a new state-of-the-art mobile classroom,” CTNA officials said.

Named the “Untamed Innovation Tour,” CTNA’s new 83-foot mobile tyre information centre featuring product samples, rolling resistance demonstrations, a movie theatre, driving games and touch-screen explanations of Continental tyre technologies, according to the company.(Tire Review/Akron)

MAM To Introduce EDIWHEEL E-Commerce Functionality

MAM Software has announced the forthcoming release of its 'Autonet Ediwheel Buyer (AEB)' e-commerce solution. When launched in April, AEB will enable users of MAM's Autopart software to retrieve real-time stock availability from any Ediwheel-enabled supplier. In addition, users can place immediate purchase orders and receive real-time line-level acknowledgements.

Ediwheel is a new and commonly agreed e-commerce protocol, developed by the major tyre manufacturers to communicate on a business-to-business basis with their trade customers. By conforming to Ediwheel, MAM's AEB will be compatible with any major European tyre manufacturer and tyre importer that has adopted this standard.

TGI Launches Online Ordering System

Tire Group International has today (5 January 2009) launched its new online ordering system. The launch is being described as the final step in a two-year long programme of Improvements to the company’s existing system, which have included the implementation of a fully operational warehouse management system (WMS) integrated to a new back-office ERP system.

TGI partnered with Radiant Software Solutions to tailor a complete software solution for all of its needs, allowing TGI to increase sales in 2008 by over 20 per cent without any additional employees. The technology has also helped the company become more ecologically friendly and is now virtually paperless.

Cam Systems Targets 7 New Staff for Expansion in 2009

Cam Systems is on the hunt for IT professionals interested in careers with the tyre industry’s leading software supplier. The company launched a recruitment drive towards the end of 2008 designed to fill seven full time vacancies covering a variety of roles in project management, installations, helpline support and financial accounting. Three of the positions were filled by the end of the year but four more staff will be added in early 2009 as Cam gears up for continued growth and expansion.

Accounts assistant Petri Conradie, a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants has been hired to provide back-up for Cam’s suite of accounting software; customer support technician Nick Berry and installations and support technician Michael Indruch have also joined the company. All three will all be in place by early January, helping to bolster customer support services and functions.

Cam Systems Offers Users Improved Version Release Policy

Cam Systems has introduced a new policy to manage the regular and controlled release of upgrades, enhancements and ‘bug fixes’ for its Cameo software program. With effect from January 2009, Cam users will start to benefit from regular bi-annual Cameo upgrades. The new Version & Release Control policy will, for the first time, allow all Cam users to benefit from the latest and most efficient version of the program at the same time.

The updates will be automatically issued to all Cam subscribers and will be accompanied by clear, easy-to-follow documentation. Supporting instruction and advice will also be posted on the Cam Systems website. Support staff will be fully conversant with modifications and available to assist customers where necessary.

Cam Systems Welcomes Back Founding Director

Pete Morys has rejoined Cam Systems 15-years after he left to set up his own software company. Morys is one of the best-known faces in the IT market and was a pioneer in the development of the software on which the market-leading Cameo program is based. He was technical director at Cam Systems between 1981 and his departure 12 years later in 1993.

In his new role as business development manager Morys will draw on his enormous technical and commercial knowledge to help customers develop the efficiency and productivity of their IT systems. He will work alongside fellow BDM Steve Collins and report to commercial director Steve Daly.

Michelin Earthmover TPMS Available Worldwide

Michelin has announced that the company’s MEMS (Michelin Earthmover Management System) product is now available all around the world.

The French manufacturer says that MEMS is the only electronic system for monitoring earthmover tyre temperature and pressure to be marketed worldwide. The global rollout follows an extensive series of field trials that began in 1996 and the system’s launch in North and South America in 2006.

Fleets Warned to Take Fuel Saving Steps

Fleets have been warned that they should still be taking proactive measures to manage fuel use – even though petrol and diesel prices have started to fall from recent peaks. Crude oil prices are now more than a third lower than the July peak of $147 a barrel. Pump prices are some way behind this kind of drop but petrol is already nearer an average of 110 pence per litre rather than the 120 pence of recent months.

Farming by GPS a Goodyear Farming Innovation Award Contender

Set the Sat Nav, son, it’s time to plant the crops! Sounds far fetched, but this scenario is not far from becoming reality. Llanystumdwy, North Wales farmer Arthur Parry, who has invented a seed drill that used GPS technology to sow patterns and logos into the ground, has become one of three finalists in the Goodyear Farming Innovation Award 2008.

Micheldever Chooses Syncron Supply Chain Management Software

Micheldever Tyre Services, arguably the UK’s largest tyre wholesaler operation, has selected Syncron software to reduce inventory levels, increase availability and reduce operating costs. Micheldever has reportedly licensed Syncron’s Supply Chain Planning solution to achieve more efficient management of its supply chain. According to the company, the new system will help Micheldever reduce inventory levels, increase availability and reduce the cost of purchasing. The solution is also expected to reduce the amount of inter-location trucking between Micheldever distribution network outlets.

BAT RF Launches Automated CV Tyre Management System in the UK

A computerised tyre management system developed in the US by BAT RF is now being launched in the UK market. The system brings together a series of active RF (radio frequency) components to provide truck and bus fleets with real-time data for tyre inflation, fuel consumption and asset identification. All data can be viewed in real time through the BAT RF website or integrated into existing fleet management software.

A survey carried out in mid-July by BAT RF UK with a large UK fleet operator found that 44 per cent of all tyres were under inflated by more than five per cent, which has a significant detrimental effect on tyre life and fuel consumption. The survey also found that 64 per cent of dual tyres on tractor units were more than five per cent out of balance. This results in one tyre running hotter than the other on the same axle and eventually failing. Initial indications are that many UK truck and bus fleets are facing similar challenges in monitoring and managing tyre pressures cost effectively.

Pneu-Logic Supplies RFID to ‘Leading European Aircraft Tyre Manufacturer’

Pneu-Logic, a UK subsidiary of Advanced ID Corporation has signed a new agreement with a leading European based aircraft tyre manufacturer. Under the terms of the deal, Pneu-Logic will supply and integrate its RFID technology and FastCheck Software with the tyre manufacturer’s business practices. Initially valued in excess of US$750,000, additional terms of the agreement are expected in a joint press release in the next two weeks.

Earlier this week Pneu-Logic entered an agreement to provide its FastCheck tyre products to Entyrety Ltd of Erdington, Birmingham, a leading provider of training and support services for the automotive and related industries. Using the FastCheck software, the new paperless system was developed by Pneu-Logic, working in collaboration with Entyrety engineers. The new paperless solution automated the old, manually compiled, paper based report, taking days and significant costs out of the fleet audit process. A major step forward for the European tyre and automotive industries, both companies anticipate the sale of over 50 of the new auditing systems within the next year.
