New PCL Wrench ‘Perfect’ for Automotive Applications

Pneumatic Components Ltd has introduced a new half-inch composite impact wrench, and the company says it’s the handiest air tool of its kind. The composite housing on the APP203, says PCL, provides superior comfort with a strong yet lightweight finish, and its compact design provides a soft, ergonomic grip for prolonged usage. As with other products in the PCL Prestige range, the new addition features low vibration, low noise and higher performance, making it suitable for industrial and heavy duty, repetitive work.

PCL to Pay ‘Prestigious’ Visit to Autopromotec 2009

When Sheffield-based PCL exhibits at Autopromotec the company says it will “provide the Italian automotive industry with a [prestigious] connection between its high quality air tools and top end performance, on Hall 22 Stand C8”. No the pneumatic specialists haven’t taken too much gas and air, PCL’s expert team are planning to introduce visitors to a new addition to its enhanced range of air tools – the Prestige Air Tool range.

The range comprises of 11 top end products which feature low vibration, low noise, ergonomic grip and higher performance. All products are manufactured from magnesium or other composite materials for a high quality, lightweight finish, and are ergonomically designed to help the user perform daily jobs more efficiently and in greater comfort. PCL also says it will show customers how nitrogen tyre inflation can maintain tyre pressure for longer, and provide extended tyre life, increased safety, higher fuel economy and superior handling – with demonstrations of Accura Mobile.

Toyo OE for New Mazda 3

Toyo Tire Europe reports that Mazda has selected it as tyre supplier for the new Mazda 3. Available across Europe from late spring, two different tyres will be fitted depending upon car specification. Models with 16-inch wheels will be fitted with the Toyo J48C in size 205/55 R16 91V, whilst those with 17-inch wheels will come with Proxes R32 in size 205/50 R17 89W TL.

Kumho Wins Russian Magazine Tyre Test

Kumho tyres have won a respected magazine tyre test for the second year in a row. Russian publication Za Rulem declared the Kumho Solus KH17 as outright winner of Za Rulem’s test of 15 major tyre brands. The extensive trial encompassed all key disciplines including: braking, steering response, safety, noise level, fuel consumption and wear resistance on both wet and dry roads.

“Kumho’s Solus KH17 is strongly recommended and boasts excellent performance in all weather conditions as well as remarkable fuel efficiency. Kumho’s second consecutive victory in our annual test proves last year’s result was well deserved,” Za Rulem commented. The Korean manufacturer also won considerable acclaim in a similarly comprehensive comparison of major tyre brands run by Germany’s ADAC motorwelt.

New Touring Tyre from Giti

Giti Tire USA has introduced the Champiro 228, a “performance touring” line of 15 H- and V-rated sizes. The new tyre features Giti’s “Nanotek” silica tread compound for wet/dry grip and lower rolling resistance, four circumferential grooves for water dispersion, shoulder grooves to resist hydroplaning, and a low noise tread design. The Champiro 228 is now available to dealers in 16- and 17-inch wheel diameters. (Tire Review/Akron)

Federal Introduces Xtramile XR01

Federal has introduced its new Xtramile XR01, a tyre designed for “reducing gas consumption”, according to the company. It also states that the tyre will feature “improved grip in a long-lasting tyre by utilising a blend of wear-resistant compound along with increased tread depth to offer prolonged tyre life.” Other features, says Federal, will include a distinctive tread pattern, four bold grooves for stability and increased water expulsion, dual layers of polyester carcass ply and strengthened sidewalls, alongside reduced road noise.

Federal dealers will begin selling 12 popular sizes, through 13- to 15-inch rim diameters from 55-70 series. These offerings comprise H- to V-speed ratings and will be available in the first quarter of 2009. A more comprehensive range will be added later.

Strength & Comfort the Goal of Goodyear’s Latest Wrangler

New from Goodyear in 2009 is the Wrangler AT/SA, a tyre for 4×4 drivers seeking mobility both on and off the road. The Wrangler AT/SA has been released onto the market following extensive testing on the company’s on and off-road test facilities – tests that Goodyear says show the new tyre to outperform its major competitors and its predecessor in both wet braking and wet handling tests.

Durability on rough surfaces comes courtesy of a generous serving of Kevlar. Two layers of the five-times stronger than steel material are built into the tyre in addition to the its two high-tensile steel belts; the main benefit the layers offer, says Goodyear, is improved resistance to punctures in the tread – however Kevlar layers also act as a sound barrier, absorbing noise for an especially quiet ride. This combination of strength and silence is part of what the manufacturer calls its ‘SilentArmor Technology’, a proprietary innovation first introduced on Goodyear 4×4 some four years ago.

Federal Confirm OE Deal with Chinese Auto Makers

Federal Corporation has announced the commencement of three OE fitments. The company’s SS657 will become original equipment on products from automobile manufacturers BYD (aka Build Your Dreams) Auto and JMC (Jiangling Motors) Landwind in Mainland China. Also fitted on a JMC sedan in size 175/65R14 is the company’s S-drive.

Federal’s SS657 is designed, says the manufacturer, for low noise levels, confident driving and a comfortable ride. It has large grooves to improve water dispersion and prevents hydroplaning in touring coupes and sedans – a feature that Federal says has ultimately led to BYD and JMC choosing the tyre.

European Release for New Firestone Touring Tyre

A new passenger car touring tyre has been added to the Firestone line-up. Targeted at what the manufacturer calls ‘family drivers’ – saloon and compact vehicle drivers who enjoy a peaceful and relaxing experience behind the wheel – the new TZ300α is designed to offer robust and reliable performance, along with safety, comfort and a quiet ride. The TZ300α range is initially available in 14 sizes for 14 to 16-inch rims and will progressively replace the TZ200, which was first introduced in 2002.

Toyo Tire USA Unveils First DOT Approved Drag Radial

Toyo Tire USA has introduced its first Department of Transport approved drag radial. Known as the Proxes TQ, the new tyre is specifically designed for high-horsepower muscle cars and street machines. The tyre was unveiled before a crowd of racing enthusiasts at the Performance Racing Industry Trade Show in Orlando, Florida.

Bridgestone North American OE for Nissan 370Z

Nissan’s latest ‘Z car’, the upcoming 2009 Nissan 370Z sports coupe, is to be supplied to North American customers with Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tyres as original equipment. Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire is supplying a summer fitment of the Potenza in size 245/40R19 94W Potenza RE050A for the front wheels and 275/35R19 96W Potenza RE050A for the rear.

Dunlop Introduces First 2nd Generation Municipal Tyre

New from the Dunlop stable is a the SP372 City, a steer and all position tyre for municipal vehicles such as city buses, garbage trucks and other vehicles operating in tough urban environments.

Kerbing, stop-start conditions and requirements for low noise and comfort were all important factors in the development of this all season municipal use tyre, says Dunlop. A high level of traction and short stopping distances on wet roads are further benefits the manufacturer wanted from the tyre. The SP372 City is designed to give exceptionally high mileage and long service life, qualities facilitated by its robust construction with reinforced sidewalls for enhanced durability. The tread pattern features specific, deep blading for improved wet braking and traction as well as all season usage capability. The compound was specifically developed for its abrasion-resistance, which combined with the other features means lower noise levels, an even wear pattern and improved comfort. The SP372 is designed for all season use and carries M+S markings. The tyre is also fully retreadable and regroovable.

Pirelli P4 Four Season Gets Top Marks

Pirelli’s P4 Four Season tyre received the top rating in Tire Rack’s online consumer survey of standard touring all-season tyres.

Tire Rack customers were asked their opinions of tyres across 12 categories, including hydroplaning resistance, wet traction, cornering stability, dry traction, noise/comfort, steering response and other parameters such as light or heavy snow traction, ice traction and whether or not the customer would consider purchasing the tyres again.

Pirelli said its P4 Four Season rated highest in 10 of the 12 categories. Some 28 tyre models were considered in the opinion survey. (Tire Review/Akron)
