Setting foot inside the entrance of Oak Tyres’ new Newton-le-Willows headquarters, it is clear that the company has made a conscious decision to present a stride forwards in the professionalism of its operations. Renovations to the previously semi-derelict three floor building were taken on as a special project headed by the company’s Gary Cross around 18 months ago; “almost finished” when Tyres & Accessories visited, a strong, corporate aesthetic has been employed, with colours and imagery from the Oak Group’s own Davanti tyre brand, as well as exclusively distributed lines, such as Landsail, added to Oak’s red and greyscale CI.

TechMan says new customer Jim Steel Garage has already realised big benefits after going live in August with the garage management system. Led by Kevin Steel and his son Sam, the family run Beeston-based business offers MOTs, servicing and repairs for all makes of vehicle. Formerly a Unipart Car Centre, the business had been reviewing new management systems for several months until a visit from national sales manager Leo Freebairn led to them trying a demo site and opting to go with TechMan.

Eberspächer opens new UK headquarters

Eberspächer (UK) Ltd has opened a new purpose-built UK headquarters and manufacturing facility in Ringwood, Hampshire. The company, a manufacturer and supplier of vehicle, construction, marine heating and air conditioning systems, is part of the global Eberspächer Group, which is still family owned and is celebrating its 150th year. The official opening was carried out on 25 March at Climate House, Yeoman Road, Ringwood, BH24 3FA by Eberspächer Group COO and managing partner, Heinrich Baumann and UK managing director, Vince Lee, with the Mayor of Ringwood Cllr. Barbara Woodifield in attendance.

Italian launch for Kumho Flagship Store programme

Following the rollout of similar facilities in South Korea, the US, Australia and the UK, Kumho Tire opened its first ‘Kumho Flagship Store’ in Italy on 20 March. As in the other markets, the Italian flagship centre scheme aims to reward and help dealers who focus on the Kumho brand. The first facility, at the Pneus2000 centre in Offanengo, Cremona province, was selected from within the tyre maker’s Kumho Platinum Club network in Italy and will be followed in the near future by other centres in main cities throughout the country.

The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has lifted the lid on the worst examples of excessive speeding caught on safety cameras across England and Wales in 2014. Britain's two worst speeders were caught at 146mph, both by Kent Police on the M25. One was travelling anti-clockwise at Junction 5 at Clacket Lane Services, the other going clockwise at Swanley.

SRI meets 50% less rolling resistance goal with latest Enasave tyre

This month, Sumitomo Rubber Industries (SRI) has launched a new flagship product for its Enasave series of fuel efficient tyres, albeit only in the Japanese market. The Dunlop-brand Enasave Next has been introduced in size 195/65R15 91H and has achieved the coveted ‘AAA-a’ rank under the Japanese tyre label, the highest rating possible for rolling resistance and wet grip. SRI says the new tyre has 50 per cent lower rolling resistance than the standard Japanese replacement market Dunlop tyre in 2008, the year it set out to achieve this goal.

The time since Reifen 2014 can still be measured in weeks, but even now, Messe Essen reports that it has already firmly rented out around 60 per cent of the area in 2014 for Reifen 2016 on 24–27 May, 2016. The more than 150 exhibitors which have already registered include the following manufacturers (amongst others): Alligator, Giti Tire, Kraiburg, Kumho Tyre, Infinity Tyres, Marangoni, VMI and Yokohama. A month from now, 40 electric racing cars will line up on the grid at the inaugural Formula E Championship race in Beijing. Each of the tyres that take to the track on 13 September will be fitted with identical tyres that were specifically developed for the competition. In a Michelin-hosted Q&A session, the company’s motorsport director Pascal Couasnon explains that the decision that all cars should run on Pilot Sport EV tyres was not simply a strategic option in technology terms; he says it was also an obvious choice.
