Dunlop India Resumes Production
Tyres are reportedly rolling off the Dunlop production line in Sahagunj, India, for the first time since 2001. The factory, located in the state of Bengal, is initially focusing on manufacturing Earthmover tyres, although the production of other types of tyre should commence before mid 2007. The workforce at Sahagunj numbered 473 the day work resumed, but this number should increase to about 1,200 during the coming months.

Scottish based online tyre retailer Black Circles has been dealt a blow by the unexpected departure of its finance director, Bob Russell. Mr. Russell had been with Black Circles since its early days and in August 2006 had joined the company’s Board of Directors. He reportedly was a key adviser to chief executive, Michael Welch. Black Circles has over 900 contracted fitting outlets, and the company is currently finalising its plans to double this number, as well as enter the French and German markets. No replacement for Russell has been named at present.

Giti Tire (China) Investment Co. Ltd, China’s largest tyremaker, has voiced its intention to raise tyre production capacity at its Hualin factory. The company intends to boost annual capacity there by a further 4.6 million tyres from its current 3.4 million by the end of 2008. Giti Tire operates six factories in Mainland China, the largest of these being in Anhui and Fujian provinces. The company recently announced plans to sell bonds in order to free up revenue for capital expenditure.

A New Zealand man has ended up in court after getting more than he bargained for while changing a flat tyre on his car. A 37-year old Wellington man pulled to the side of a busy street last December and was attempting to change his car’s deflated tyre when police arrived to give him a hand. However, the observant boys in blue spotted that all was not as it should be, and promptly booked the man for drink driving.
