European replacement tyre sales mostly down in Q1 2024

The European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers’ Association (ETRMA) has published its members’ Q1 2024 replacement tyre sales figures, and the general trend remains towards lower sales volumes. “The general inflationary context continues to affect the demand in all tyre product lines,” comments Adam McCarthy, ETRMA secretary general.
Sales of replacement consumer tyres rose three per cent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2024, to 56.244 million units. This increase was driven by sales of all-season and winter tyres, which respectively rose 18 per cent and 26 per cent year-on-year. Summer tyre sales were four per cent lower than in the first quarter of 2023.
“For the consumer segment, we continue to witness the recovery that started in the last quarter of 2023, primarily driven by winter tyre sales. However, the whole segment is two per cent below Q1 2019, before the COVID-19 crisis,” McCarthy adds.
Down eight per cent year-on-year, the evolution of the truck and bus segments remains negative. Sales volumes for replacement moto tyres were six per cent lower year-on-year, whist agricultural tyre sales volumes were one per cent below the first quarter result for last year.
