Sailun Tire Group is developing the ERange EV, tyre line-up in order to cater for growing demand for electric vehicles. According to Sailun Tire Americas, the new range is expected to reach the (US) market in 2022. At the point of its launch, the ERange EV portfolio will offer 90 per cent coverage of the electric vehicles on sale.

Judging from the tyre used in the promotional photography distributed by Sailun, the new tyres are being made at the company Qingdao, Shandong Province, China factory – something that is identifiable by the “53” DOT code on the sidewall. However, the company hasn’t given further details about whether the ERange EV tyres can or will be made at the company’s other factories.

According to Sailun, at the heart of ERange EV is its “liquid phase mixing” deployed in the manufacturing process and termed by Sailun EcoPoint3 technology. In short this means a synthetic rubber solution is mixed with silica. The silica disperses better in the rubber solution, lowering rolling resistance in the tyre without harming the other key performance attributes of wear resistance and grip.

In addition to improved rolling resistance, Sailun reports that its ERange EV tyres also feature: “advanced tread patterns and specially formulated rubber compounds are designed to handle the instant torque of electric vehicles and deliver, dynamic driving performance in various road conditions”.

At the same time, they are said to offer increased load-bearing capacity to account for the extra weight of vehicle batteries and have a reinforced sidewall design for handling and cornering stability. In addition, the tyres will feature the SilentTread technology already seen on Sailun all-season products.

“We’re excited about the launch of this brand-new product lineup that will be sure to satisfy the needs of the growing electric vehicles market,” says Peter Koszo, president of Sailun Tire Americas. “The all-new EcoPoint3 technology used to create the ERange EV line-up is a huge leap forward in technological advancement for the tire industry. We’re thrilled to be able to lead and move forward with this technology and manufacture such exciting new products, with many more still under development. ERange represents an enhanced driver experience for every EV owner while still providing the excellent value for which our brand is known.”

Sailun is due to provide more information on the ERange EV in late-2021 and is collecting email addresses ahead of the launch of its dedicated ERangeTires.com website.
