Sumitomo Rubber starts Brazil truck tyre production

On 1 March 2019 Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd. began manufacturing truck and bus tyres at its new Brazil manufacturing site.

The news follows 465 million reals (roughly 13.5 billion Japanese yen) of investment in new equipment with the in order to ensure a more stable supply of truck and bus tyres for the Brazilian market, while also minimizing the firm’s Forex risks. The Brazil factory currently has plans to manufacture 1,000 tyres for trucks and buses by the end of 2020.

Previously, their Brazilian subsidiary had imported truck and bus tyres for sale in Brazil. However, now the company can supply of tyres for trucks and buses in Brazil where the market for this type of product is expected to grow by 2-3 per cent per year for the foreseeable future.
