New Bosch battery chargers with fully automatic charging, back-up, buffer ops

Bosch has introduced its BAT 645 and BAT 690 battery chargers for all types of car and commercial vehicle batteries to the UK. The chargers feature 45 or 90 ampere of continuous current output, automatic detection of the required nominal voltage, and application for 12-volt car batteries and 24-volt commercial vehicle batteries alike.

Suitable for conventional lead-acid and gel batteries, the chargers are suitable for batteries using modern AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) and EFB (Enhanced Flooded Battery) technologies as well as for up-to-date lithium-ion (LiFEPP04, in short: LFP) batteries. All types of batteries are charged to full capacity automatically, and a special charge characteristic can be selected for each type of battery – depending on the specific features of different battery technologies. When the tool identifies an ‘exhausted’ or empty battery, the battery chargers use a specific setting to maximise battery life.

The BAT 645 and BAT 690 feature both a back-up mode and a buffer mode. Using the back-up mode, the device ensures a stable power supply even when the starter battery has been removed. The buffer mode, on the other hand, is of increasing importance in everyday workshop life as it supports the on-board power supply during control unit updates.

Easily replaceable charge or electric cables – due to damage or if longer cables are needed – are available in lengths of three and five meters. The new battery chargers are also equipped with a USB port facilitating software updates.

Both of the new battery chargers are protected by a robust metal housing. Thanks to their low weight and compact size, with a height of 120mm and 230mm in width, they are highly portable and can be even be placed below the vehicle so the tool does not disturb the technician whilst working on the vehicle.
