Bridgestone OE for Peugeot 208

Date: 19th June 2012 Author: Tyrepress Editors Comments: 0

On the back of offering what it calls a “very competitive technical package,” Bridgestone has secured primary original equipment fitment for the recently launched Peugeot 208. The tyre maker will supply its EP25 in size 185/65R15 88T as the predominant tyre on Peugeot 208 models with 15-inch rims and Potenza RE050A in size 205/45R17 88V as the sole 17-inch fitment.

Although Bridgestone only publicised news of the supply deal in June, the company started tyre delivery last December, ahead of the 208’s European launch at the Geneva Motor Show on 29 March. Commenting on the agreement, Edwin van der Stad, director of sales for Bridgestone Europe’s Consumer business unit, said: “Bridgestone is doubly pleased: first to be selected for one of Europe’s leading hatchbacks, Peugeot 208, and secondly to be an important supplier on both approved sizes.”

Bridgestone said PSA Peugeot Citroën laid out “demanding tyre specifications” for the 208, including the need for excellent ride, handling and comfort, with top-level braking on dry and wet. Added to this was the requirement for a strong improvement in tyre rolling resistance on both 15-inch and 17-inch sizes, to support the vehicle’s lower CO2 emissions. Development on the EP25 and Potenza RE050A for the Peugeot 208 began in 2009, and Bridgestone said this work drew upon the Japanese manufacturer’s “wide experience of developing tyres with a range of balanced performance characteristics.”

“Bridgestone put together a very competitive technical package to meet the extremely demanding specifications and technical requirements from PSA Peugeot Citroën,” added van der Stad.
