Technology Enhancement for Exide Batteries

Date: 26th September 2006 Author: Tyrepress Editors Comments: 0

Exide Technologies has made some technological improvements to its premium lines of endurance and higher starting power batteries. Both ranges now have a heat-sealed, double lid which prevents tampering and controls spillage, for improved safety. The batteries also have a central venting system that safely manages the escape of any gases, while an internal labyrinth controls acid spills. The battery’s charge level can easily be seen from the state-of-charge indicator.

Exide’s new endurance battery is marketed in Europe under a variety of brand names, including Exide X-treme2, Tudor Tech-Tronic2, Fulmen Prestige2 and Deta Senator2. It is designed for vehicles fitted with a number of electrical accessories, such as GPS navigation, air conditioning, heated seats or onboard entertainment systems.

Based on the results of tests performed in accordance with the European Norm 50342 endurance standard, Exide claims that its endurance battery lasts twice as long as a battery that simply meets the standard. This enhanced performance is due in part to thick positive plates and a non-woven mat that keeps the active paste material firmly bonded to the grid. An envelope separator fully encloses each positive plate to reduce the risk of a short circuit.

The second range – Exide’s higher starting power battery – is sold in Europe under the names Exide Xtra+, Tudor Tech-Start+, Fulmen Intense+ and Centra Futura+. It delivers long life and good cold cranking capabilities, making it suited for cold weather and ‘stop-start’ driving demands.

Industry tests, says Exide, show that the higher starting power battery can provide up to thousands more engine starts than a standard battery. The combination of expanded metal grids with corrosion-resistant alloys means that the battery can accommodate more plates within each cell, thus boosting performance and reliability.

Joseph L’Hostis, vice-president of aftermarket sales and marketing, says: “Exide uses its OE pedigree and expertise to produce high-quality replacement batteries which are not only profitable for aftermarket customers, but are also reliable, top-performing products for installers and motorists.”
