Pirelli to Compete in One Lap of America

Date: 28th April 2005 Author: Admin Comments: 0

Pirelli Tire North America is putting a little fun into its tyre testing programme this week as it participates in the One Lap of America event. Presented by Car and Driver and the Tire Rack, the event starts on 30 April at the Tire Rack headquarters in South Bend, Indiana. The 22nd running of the One Lap covers approximately 3200 miles and passes through
many different states on the East coast of the US. The Pirelli team consisting of Jeff Dinges (R&D) and Gianluca Grioni (marketing) will participate in 11 different timed events at tracks such as Virginia International Raceway and New Hampshire International Speedway and finish the event on 7 May back at the Tire Rack.

In preparation for the One Lap, Pirelli’s R&D department completed its pre-race tyre testing at Road Atlanta on April 19 using the 2005 Ford Mustang GT that will be used in the event. This vehicle is the same Pirelli-owned car that was used to complete Pirelli’s successful original equipment homologation with Ford for the P Zero Nero M+S tyre, now standard on all Mustang GTs.

The tyre chosen for the One Lap is the P Zero
Nero 255/35R20, which is produced in Pirelli’s MIRS factory located in Rome, Georgia. After 30 laps around Road Atlanta representative of the R&D team stated: “We are very happy with the performance of this tyre on the Mustang. It should hold up to the demands of the One Lap of America.”
