Falken has launched the Euroall Season AS200, which is – as the name would suggest – an all-season tyre. According to the company, Falken's new all-year-round tyre offers improved traction on dry, wet and even snowy roads without compromising on comfort. The Euroall Season AS200 also features significantly reduced tyre rolling noise and shorter braking distances. The tyre will be available at specialist tyre dealers from July 2013 in a total range of 27 dimensions.
Shropshire wholesaler Treadsetters recently exhibited its PCR, UHP, 4×4/SUV and TBR Torque tyre ranges, in addition to its Torque-branded steel truck wheels, at Autopromotec 2013. Its TBR range includes an “anti-abrasive tread for increased mileage,” the wholesaler states, adding that the tyres are especially suited to “mid to long distance journeys on both regional and urban roads.” Torque steel wheels meanwhile are available in sizes between 17.5 and 24.5 inches.
Daisy Tires, Zeetex’s Italian distributor cut the ribbon at the launch of the brand’s latest tyre during Autopromotec in May. The new ICE 1000 studless winter passenger car tyre will be available in sizes ranging from 14 to 17 inches and is said to be part of a new generation of products which are set to replace the S-100 line over the next few years. The ICE 2000C is a winter commercial tyre with zigzag sipes. According to the company, the tyre offers “remarkable handling and enhanced stability on slush and snow surfaces”. This tyre is available in 15 and 16 inches with high end load ranges.
Delticom has added a wheel configurator to dealers at yourtyres.co.uk. In addition the company’s complete aluminium wheel and alloy wheel range is also being expanded on yourtyres, and on Delticom's dedicated site for fleet buyers.
Barbon Manor and Harewood Hill will play host to the Avon Tyres MSA British Hillclimb Championship this weekend 11-12 May, as the grass-roots championship arrives at its first of two split-venue race weekends of 2013. The Cumbria hill of Barbon Manor is the venue for competition on Saturday, with racers then travelling to the longest venue on the championship calendar – Harewood Hill – for Sunday’s action.

Leeds City Council fitted GT Radial’s Champiro WinterPro cold weather tyres to its Community Meals fleet this winter on the recommendation of its tyre partner, Earthmover Tyres. Thanks to the addition of seasonal rubber, the Council said its 16 Citroen Berlingos delivered more than 420 meals safely every day across the city, regardless of the inclement weather.
Janne Laitinen is the fastest driver on ice….in the world. The Finnish test driver teamed up with Nokian Tyres to break the record on the ice covering the Gulf of Bothnia, the Baltic Sea’s northerly cul-de-sac. For the record attempt on 9 March, Laitenen drove an Audi RS6 fitted with size 255/35R20 97 T XL Nokian Hakkapeliitta 8 studded tyres. In freezing winter weather, Laitenen’s Nokian-shod car reached an eye watering 208.602 mph (335.713 km/h).
According to audited financial statements for the 2012 fiscal year, internet tyre retailer Delticom AG recorded revenues of 456.4 million euros, 4.9 per cent less than a year earlier. The company’s EBIT margin was also down, from 11.0 per cent in 2011 to 7.1 per cent last year. Consolidated net income was 22.2 million euros or 1.87 euros per share, as compared with 3.04 euros a share in 2011.

West Midlands tyre dealer Truck Tyre Solutions (TTS) reports securing a contract with one of the UK’s leading steel hauliers to supply Continental tyres as exclusive tyre fitment. Brierley Hill based A Hingley Transport runs a fleet of 80 top-weight tractor units and 180 trailers and specialises in the movement of steel as well as carrying out general haulage throughout the UK. The company is part of the AH Group, which also refurbishes trailers and builds new trailers, all of which will be fitted with Continental tyres as original equipment.
During 2012 Continental sold some 20.1 million passenger car, 4×4 and van winter tyres in the European replacement tyre market, the company reports. This figure is approximately 300,000 units above what it sold in 2011 and was achieved despite a ten per cent drop in overall market demand. Altogether the company sold around 21.4 million winter tyres globally last year.
With temperatures sinking well below freezing and roads around the country dusted with snow, Michelin has found that many UK motorists are still resistant to fitting cold weather tyres to their vehicles. In a survey of motorists, the manufacturer found that 13 per cent of drivers claim not to know of winter tyres’ existence, while even those who may consider fitting cold weather tyres to their vehicle are put off by the cost and inconvenience of having to change their tyres.
With parts of the UK having experienced their first significant snowfalls, and forecasts predicting up to three weeks of winter weather, Vauxhall offers a solution to keep vehicles moving safely through the snow.
