Hercules Increases its European Focus

Hercules Tire International’s Essen exhibit featured several new products from among its stable of brands. New lines debuting at the show included the Hercules Terra Trac A/T & MR IV SUV, Merit All Country A/T and Ironman Radial A/P.

According to Hercules Corporate Business Development Officer, Joe Recchia, “Never before have we launched so many new lines at once, in our Flagship brand, as well as in Merit and Ironman. We believe our product line-up at Essen clearly shows our commitment in mold investment and in providing our customers the latest in tread design and product range. By partnering with an array of world-class manufacturers, only Hercules can offer a second-to-none combination of quality and availability.”

Hercules to Add Performance Line-Up

Hercules Tire International reports it is revamping is high performance line up to match the depth of its sport utility vehicle product lines. Hercules’ President, Joe Recchia, said, “our customers have spoken and we have listened. This year and next, we’ll be launching several new lines across all our main brands.”

The first line, the Hercules Raptis WR1 will be available later this year. The size range will, says Hercules, straddle “aficionado performance” and “touring performance” vehicle applications. The tyremaker is confidence that, with its sleek looks, rolling contour toroidal shape and bold asymmetric tread pattern, the Raptis WR1 will take its place among industry benchmark products in its category.

Cooper Recall Now Includes Hercules, Pro Comp

Cooper Tire & Rubber Co.’s March recall of light truck tyres now includes Hercules and Pro Comp models produced by the tyremaker. The NHTSA issued recall notices for 2,005 Hercules branded and for 1,206 Pro Comp tyres produced between December 2, 2007 and January 12 in size LT265/75R16 Load Range E. In March, Cooper began recalling some 48,037 Cooper branded and private brand light truck tyres. The private brand lines included tyres for TBC, American Car Care Centers, Nokian Tyre, and Sure Tire.

Sizes Added to Hercules Lines

Hercules Tire & Rubber Co. has introduced new sizes to two of its top lines. The Findlay, Ohio, private brander added sizes LT215/85R16E and LT265/75R16C to its Hercules Terra Trac HT line, and size LT315/75R16D (3-ply) to its Hercules Trail Digger M/T line. In addition, Hercules said it plans to add five new 3-ply sizes for the Trail Digger by mid-year. (Tire Review/Akron)

Hercules Chooses Simpson to Lead Marketing

(Akron/Tire Review) Hercules Tire & Rubber Co. has named Joshua Simpson as its new vice president of marketing. He will be responsible for developing product and marketing strategies for Hercules’ private and associate brands and coordinating domestic and international marketing efforts, according to the company. Simpson joined Hercules in July 2006 as marketing director. He will report to Larry Seawell, Hercules’ president and CEO.

New TIA Board Set

(Akron/Tire Review) Members have spoken, and TIA has 13 newly elected board of directors members. The new board members will officially take office Oct. 29 at TIA’s annual membership meeting in Las Vegas, just prior to the SEMA Sow.

KeyBanc’s Saul Ludwig has upgraded Cooper to “Buy” from “Hold” and increased his 2007 earnings prediction for the company. The Associated Press quote Ludwig as saying: “Following seven money-losing quarters, the pendulum is about to swing in a positive direction, in our opinion.”

Hercules Chairman and Bell Tire Owner Passes Away

(Akron/Tire Review) Joseph Russo, former president and chairman of the board of Hercules Tire & Rubber Co. and owner of Bell Tire in Cleveland, passed away on Dec. 30 after a short illness.

Russo served as president of Hercules from 1971 to 1987 and as chairman of the board from 1987 to 1989.

The funeral service is scheduled for 10:00 AM on Thursday, Jan. 4, at St. Adelbert Church in Berea, Ohio, with internment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Earlier this year Hercules International launched the Ironman range of tyres. These are available as commercial light vehicle, 4×4 and passenger car radials. The Ironman PCR range is subdivided according to speed rating. As a result the Type-H line consists of twenty-two 60 to 75 series products in 13 to 16-inch diameters; five 13 to 14-inch 70-series sizes in the Type-T line; and two 15-inch 50 series products in the Type-V offering. The new brand also offers a number of 12 to 15-inch van products and five 15 to 16-inch Radial A/T 4×4/SUV sizes.

Hercules Tire & Rubber to Acquire Wholesaler

The Hercules Tire & Rubber Company (Hercules), the marketer and distributor of private label and branded tyres, announced that it is acquiring Tire Distributor Inc., USA (TDI), a tyre wholesaler headquartered near Miami, Florida. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. “We are very pleased to bring TDI and its management team and employees into the Hercules family,” said Larry Seawell, president and chief executive officer of Hercules. Seawell added, “We had targeted the Southeast region for expansion given the opportunities for growth in that market, and it was important for us to find a strong operating platform in Florida that would allow us to expand our sales and distribution capabilities throughout the Southeast and into Latin America.”

Burst Tyre Causes Plane Fire

A British Hercules C-130 aeroplane, carrying the new British Ambassador to Afghanistan, Stephen Evans, was completely destroyed when a tyre burst on landing, sending debris into the engine, which then caught fire. Everyone escaped safely from the aircraft and there were no casualties.

Hercules Moves Corporate Headquarters

The new address is 16380 E. U.S. Route 224, Suite 200, Findlay, OH 45840. Hercules’ phone and fax numbers – 419-425-6400 and 419-425-6403 (FAX) – will not change.

Hercules Acquired by FdG

(Akron/Tire Review) Hercules Tires & Rubber Co has officially announced that its senior management has “partnered” with private equity firm FdG Associates to acquire the Findlay, Ohio-based private brander and distributor. Hercules’ 33 dealer shareholders voted to sell their share to FdG

According to its statement, Hercules said the transaction was financed with equity from FdG’s second institutional fund, FdG Capital Partners II LP, and “will provide Hercules with the capital to further expand its Hercules branded private label program, solidify its industry position and capitalize on opportunities for continued growth and acquisitions.” Details of the deal were not disclosed.
