In an interview with T&A, C-Tyres Managing Director, Gary Oliver, highlighted the future for the Colway brand. The premium quality Formula Colway Tyre is planned to constitute 100% of company output by 2005. This is seen as a recognition that retread tyres can no longer compete as budget options, so have to be sold on quality and value.
Uniroyal’s Rallye 540 came out top in the latest and biggest-ever tyre test carried out by Auto Express magazine in the UK. The test took place with the aim of finding the best tyre for the average family car and included budget and second-line brands.
The differentiation within the Goodyear brand, which has been most conspicuous in North America, will soon be a thing of the past. On Thursday Gibara declared in front of analysts in New York that the Goodyear brand will in future only be a premium brand; the group’s range will be complemented by Dunlop (medium brand) and Kelly (economy/budget brand).
