On 25 October, 2024 Member Assembly of China Rubber Industry Association’s Rubber Machinery and Mold Branch and Industry Development Seminar was held in Qingdao, Shandong Province, China. The theme of the conference was Innovation Leads to Prosperity - Promoting High-Quality Development and Building a Sustainable Future. More than 150 industry experts and corporate representatives from tyre, rubber machinery, tyre moulds, and supporting enterprises attended the event to discuss the “hot issues of concern” in the current rubber industry and its development trends”. The conference was “co-hosted by the Rubber Machinery and Mold Branch of the China Rubber Industry Association (CRIA) and Mesnac Co., Ltd.

‘Sustainable’ Toyo tyres for Dakar rallyers
Toyo Tires is bringing its sustainable content off-road tyres to January’s Dakar Rally, supplying two versions of its Toyo Open Country M/T-R to selected competing vehicles. This means that Toyo tyres containing up to 60 per cent non-fossil materials by weight will negotiate the approximately 5,000-mile route around one of the world’s largest oil producing countries.

Nokian Tyres achieves production record at US plant
Despite market conditions it refers to as “challenging,” Nokian Tyres claims to have “set production records” at its North American factory in 2024, and also expanded its product range and grew market presence within the region. EUDR: European Parliament gives extra year to comply with deforestation rules
Companies will have one more year to comply with new EU deforestation rules after the European Parliament adopted the provisional political agreement with the Council to delay the application of the new rules by 546 votes to 97 with 7 abstentions. Large operators and traders will now have to comply with regulation from 30 December 2025. For “micro- and small enterprises” it will be another six months – from 30 June 2026. According to the European Parliament,” this additional time is intended to help companies around the world implement the rules more smoothly from the date of application, without undermining the objectives of the law.”

US recall for more than half a million Fortune & Prinx tyres
Up to around 541,600 Fortune and Prinx branded tyres are subject to recall in North America. According to information published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Prinx Chengshan Tire North America’s voluntary recall involves certain Fortune Tormenta and Prinx Hicountry light truck tyres sold in the Aftermarket. Documentation related to the recall indicates that the tyres are marked with a sidewall symbol they’re not entitled to in North America.

Groundbreaking for Yokohama Tire plant in China
Yesterday morning, Yokohama Rubber held a groundbreaking ceremony for its Hangzhou Qiantang Yokohama Tire Co., Ltd plant in China. Yokohama Rubber intends for the factory to begin operations in 2026 with an initial production capacity of 9 million passenger car tyres a year, a quantity that will deliver estimated annual revenues of RMB 3.5 billion (£379.6 million). The factory’s planned final yearly capacity is 14 million tyres.

Ecolomondo awaits replacement milling line
With the installation of a new milling line at its Hawkesbury site in Canada, Ecolomondo Corporation will have the capacity to mill an additional tonne or so (2,200 lbs) of recovered carbon black (rCB) hourly. This milling line replaces a previously installed line which failed to achieve the promised output of 725 kg (1,600 lbs) per hour of rCB and additionally didn’t yield the particle size of 10-15 microns required by many Ecolomondo rCB off-takers.
