Bridgestone Americas announces new human resources boss
On 14 December Bridgestone Americas gave word of its recent appointment of a new head of Human Resources. Darrin Rohr was appointed to the role of chief human resource officer, effective 26 November. He succeeds Patti James in this position; James now serves as Bridgestone America’s president of Shared Services, a post she accepted earlier this year.

Song has reportedly already started carrying out “a comprehensive package of measures, focusing on Nexen’s ambitious goals in Europe and implementing relevant strategies quickly.” The measures include increasing personnel at the European headquarters in Eschborn.

Ukrainian tyre maker JSC Dneproshina has gone into liquidation, a note on the tyre maker’s website states. This will most likely result in job losses for the 2,000 workers at the company’s Dnepropetrovsk plant, Ukrainian media sources report. The decision to liquidate JSC Dneproshina was made by the Dnipropetrovsk region Commercial Court.

The company received this award in the Health Promotion category for its HIV-AIDS initiative. Sunam Sarkar, chief financial officer, Apollo Tyres Ltd received the award from the Enterprise Asia Team.

Michelin’s contribution to raising awareness of road safety was recognised yesterday at a lunch held in London, to celebrate the company winning the Prince Michael International Road Safety Award. The tyre maker was presented with the award in May for its on-going commitment to road safety. The lunch is held annually to commend award winners and Michelin joins other frontrunners and government ministers at the event, which was hosted by HRH Prince Michael of Kent GCVO.

Bridgestone has expanded its new motorcycle tyre website across Europe with the addition of six new country versions and eight new languages. The site was launched in June 2012 in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish, with content adapted to Europe’s five largest markets. As of 1 December the site has been available in a total of 13 languages, with Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Hungarian, Polish, Portuguese and Swedish added to the initial five languages. At the same time, specific product-related country versions have been added for Austria, Belgium, Switzerland and Ireland.

On 1 March Bridgestone will launch its latest sport touring range in Europe. The Battlax Sport Touring T30 radial will be marketed in ten front and 13 rear sizes. The Japanese manufacturer says the Battlax Sport Touring T30 is a “premium brand steeped in technology refined through the company's development of MotoGP race tyres” and is intended for use on medium to large motorcycles.

The market for motorcycles in November shows a decline of 3.2 per cent in a year where the market has experienced a mere 0.1 per cent growth for the year to date. Sue Robinson, director of the National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA)/Motorcycle Retailers Association (MRA) commented "Of particular concern is the slowdown in the 51-125cc commuter bike market that has performed throughout the year with an increase in the year to date of 9.3 per cent. However, in November the 51-125cc market experienced a downward fall of 6.8 per cent. This is a strong indication that economic pressures are affecting basic purchases of lower priced motorcycles that many consumers consider an essential form of commuter transport."

The world's largest transit agency has awarded a vehicle lift contract for 570 mobile columns to Rotary Lift. The manufacturer delivered the first set of lifts and provided training this week. The American based transit agency conducted an exhaustive trial of the Rotary Lift mobile column lift side by side with two of its toughest competitors over 90 days, with testing taking place under real-world conditions at two different transit facilities that operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. At the end of the gruelling test period, the Rotary column lifts came out on top and was chosen for its easy operation, superior performance, low user cost and low maintenance costs over time.
