
Tyrenet MD Mike Riley retires
After more than 57 years in the tyre business including two decades as Tyrenet managing director, Mike Riley has announced his retirement effective 30 June 2023. Announcing the news, Tyrenet representatives highlighted how Riley’s contributions have been “integral to the success of Tyrenet”, adding: “Mike will continue to play a strategic role in the company as chairman, moving from the daily operations to overseeing and influencing the future growth of Tyrenet.”

Cyclone: Production resumes at BKT Bhuj plant

Lo Tsai-Jen becomes Cheng Shin Rubber vice chairman
Taiwanese tyre manufacturer Cheng Shin Rubber has re-elected its board of directors. Chen Yun-Hwa continues as chairman of the tyre maker and Lo Tsai-Jen succedes Chen Shiu-Hsiung as vice chairman. Other members of the board of directors include Chen Shiu-Hsiung, Tseng Sung-Chu, Lee Chin-Chang, Lo Yuan-Long, Chen Han-Chi and Wu Hsuan-Miao. In addition, Lo Tsai-Jen’s son Lo Yuan-Long succeeded Huang Chung-Jen as the new director. Tseng, Sung-Ling’s directorship was replaced by his cousin Tseng Sung-Chu.

Michelin acquiring Flex Composite Group
Michelin is to acquire Flex Composite Group from private equity investor IDI for an enterprise value of €700 million, a transaction it expects will increase the revenue of its High-Tech Materials businesses by approximately 20% and create a “leader in high-tech engineered fabrics and films.” Michelin views growth here as an “important step” in developing “beyond mobility” and positioning the company as a ”key player in polymer composite solutions” in line with its Michelin in Motion 2030 strategy.

Strategic tyre sensors – Italy confirms Chinese shareholder restrictions for Pirelli
Italy’s government has identified tyre sensor technology as a national strategic asset and, with the stated aim of preventing misuse of this technology, has confirmed it will use the Golden Power procedure to limit the influence that shareholder China National Tire & Rubber Corporation Ltd. (CNRC) has upon Pirelli & C. S.p.A. According to statements issued by the government on 16 June and Pirelli two days later, a range of measures will now curtail CNRC’s involvement in the tyre maker.

Metzeler tyres partnering Harley-Davidson in 120th anniversary celebration in Budapest
Motorcycle tyre brand Metzeler will be an official event partner at the European Harley-Davidson 120 Anniversary celebration in Budapest on 22-25 June. Metzeler will have a booth in the Harley-Davidson Village dedicated to its Cruisetec and ME888 Marathon Ultra tyres for the latest generation of cruisers. The brand will also offer free tyre pressure check-ups, as well as tyre sales and fitments at the event. Dunlop is supplying its KR109 and KR108 endurance racing motorcycle tyres this weekend at the second round of the FIM Endurance World Championship (EWC). With the 2022 winner of the 24H Spa EWC Motos a Dunlop partner – the BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team – the brand is seeking a repeat of last year’s successful outing. Automechanika Birmingham reports record numbers for 2023 show
Following a four-year absence, Automechanika Birmingham is reporting a record number of UK automotive professionals attended the 2023 show at the start of June. The 14,402 visitors figure was an increase of 19 per cent on the 2019 show. The total of 6750 garages, workshops and bodyshops, was also a record. A total of 511 suppliers from 23 countries – including key leading brands exhibited.

Sentury gives Spain, Morocco and Thailand tyre factory updates
At the end of May, Sentury published details relating to the development of its overseas factories. The tyremaker said data for April and May 2023 showed that its production capacity was temporarily unable to meet orders. Therefore, the company believes there is an urgent need to increase production capacity in order to meet customer demand. According to Sentury’s statement, the overseas tyre traders and retailers they cooperate with include Discount Tire, OAK Tyres, Inter-Sprint, American Omni and Turbo Wholesale.
