“Unstable & highly unpredictable times” – Michelin reports lower H1 2025 sales, income
Net income at Michelin fell 27.7 per cent year-on-year in the first half of 2024, pushed down by a mixture of lower sales and tyre volumes, particularly in the original equipment segment. This €840 million net income equates to earnings per share of €1.18, down from €1.62 in Q1 2024.

Bridgestone’s summer safety plea to reverse motorists’ tyre neglect
Bridgestone has issued a renewed safety rallying call as the holiday season commences, saying that many motorists are still neglecting their tyres. Bridgestone’s plea follows the company’s latest survey of 2,000 UK motorists, revealing that 63 per cent delay buying new tyres until their car fails its MOT, with 23 per cent never considering the risks of dangerous tyres. Meanwhile, 11 per cent wait until their tyres are completely bald before replacing them. This general lack of awareness becomes more of a concern when vehicle use spikes with school holidays, road trips, and increased mileage across the country.

Strategic acquisition will cement Doublestar’s control of Kumho Tire
As reported last October, Qingdao Doublestar Co., Ltd. is working towards significantly deepening its control over South Korean tyre maker Kumho Tire through a complex but strategically crucial transaction valued at nearly RMB 4.93 billion (£509.1 million / US$687.1 million). Russian Ministry confirms ultra-large tyre plant project
According to a statement issued by Russia’s Ministry of Economic Development on 9 July, plans are afoot to build a factory for producing ultra-large off-highway tyres within a special economic zone in the Omsk region of southwest Siberia. The plant’s construction will be the key development project within the Avangard SEZ, with the Ministry reporting an estimated investment of RUB 41.5 billion (£390.3 million / US$528.8 million) in the project.

Ceat to expand Chennai plant capacity

Carbios/Indorama Ventures agreement – Michelin to incorporate r-PET filaments into its tyres
Biotech company Carbios and major PET producer Indorama Ventures have signed a multi-year commercial agreement which will result in r-PET filaments that Michelin will integrate into its tyre manufacture. Specifically, Carbios will supply biorecycled monomers from its future Longlaville plant in France to Indorama Ventures, which will transform these into r-PET filaments for the tyre maker.
