Goodyear OE on Alfa Romeo Giulia
Goodyear’s Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 and the Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance are being fitted as original equipment on the new Alfa Romeo Giulia. The new Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 Ultra High Performance summer tyre will be fitted with an all-round fitment (225/45 R18 91 Y) or with a mixed set up, (225/45 R18 91 Y at the front and 255/40 R18 95Y at the rear) according to market specifics. Both sizes will be equipped with Goodyear’s RunOnFlat technology.

Michelin staff from Stoke-on-Trent have flown to the Republic of Ireland to train the Irish Police Service (An Garda Síochána) – teaching them about tyre safety and technology through a specially-developed course. The in-depth programme also showed the Garda members how to identify when poor tyre maintenance could have contributed to accidents.

The aluminium content in cars is set to increase by up to 30 per cent over the next 10 years. Auto Body Sheet leads the growth with an expected increase of 110 per cent over the same period. The growth is largely attributed to aluminium’s role in reducing car weight thereby contributing to low emission mobility. The study, by consulting and research firm Ducker Worldwide and commissioned by European Aluminium, predicts that the aluminium content of cars produced in Europe could reach nearly 200 kg per vehicle by 2025, up from 150 kg today.

Reports in local US newspapers suggest that the decision was made on Thursday 1 September – at which point the choice was between the shortlist of the reportedly successful Georgia location and the Memphis Regional Megasite in Tennessee.

Intended as an alternative to tracks or conventional dual configurations on large four-wheel drive tractors, the tyre offers “the best combination of floatation, traction and ride quality,” according to Titan.

BFGoodrich Tires has launched its truck and bus tyres in the Middle East and Africa. The range includes highway, regional and on/off-road applications. According to the company, BFGoodrich will initially offer the Route Control tyre for regional and highway use and the Cross Control for on- and off-road use. The Route Control will be available in 14 sizes and the Cross Control will be available in five sizes. Both are mainly manufactured in Europe.

Australia is suing the local arm of Volkswagen for allegedly misleading customers by selling modified vehicles that covered up emissions fraud, with its consumer watchdog claiming Volkswagen intentionally sold more than 57,000 such vehicles over a five-year period. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) is seeking a public declaration of misconduct, financial penalties and corrective advertising. Volkswagen Australia said it is reviewing the ACCC claims.
