The journey as destination – ViaMichelin debuts redesigned website & app

ViaMichelin is launching a redesigned website and mobile app to unite all of the Michelin Group’s expertise. This overhaul comes with the promise that these new interfaces will deliver an “unparalleled experience in terms of planning and travel” with a single click. Michelin even dares to call this update of ViaMichelin “a route revolution.”
Michelin views these latest changes as an evolution of ViaMichelin beyond being a “simple navigation device” to become a “veritable travel companion.” The new platform encourages motorists to reconsider their travel experience, focusing on authentic and memorable journeys. The emphasis is now on the route being as important as the destination.
The aim of the updated website and app is to simplify travel planning by consolidating the best routes, Michelin Guide selections, and editorial content for planning car journeys across Europe.
Rediscover possibilities for exploration
“Hitting the road. For some, this simply means going from A to B. Going somewhere as quickly as possible,” states Caio Favero Teixeira, ViaMichelin general manager. “In recent years, navigation apps have made us lose sight of the many possibilities for exploration, apart from finding the fastest or most economical route. At ViaMichelin, we’re a lot more than simple planners, we’re a veritable travel companion with a passion for routes that are not necessarily linear. It’s also a way of addressing new ‘slow tourism’ trends. We devise routes that meet expectations, that are fast or economical, and more importantly, routes that are worth the detour, in electric or thermal energy cars.”
The latest version of ViaMichelin introduces the following new features:
Areas of tourist interest: This ViaMichelin-exclusive feature offers suggestions for tourism breaks along the route, including hotel and restaurant listings, calculated by the ViaMichelin team and featuring Michelin Guide recommendations.
Tourist detours: Available from summer 2024, this feature includes scenic “discovery routes” and tourist sites for enjoyable detours.
Michelin Guide selections: ViaMichelin now provides a filter to display tourist sites, restaurants, and hotels with their various accolades on the map. Users can choose which categories to display and combine multiple points of interest.
Environmentally respectful routes: Catering to users’ growing environmental concerns, this feature helps plan eco-friendly journeys, whether travelling with family, by electric car, or seeking culinary experiences.
Route cost calculation: To help users save money, ViaMichelin includes cost parameters such as fuel and tolls in its calculations.
ViaMichelin Magazine: The new magazine offers inspiration with a fresh design and a renewed commitment to travel and eco-mobility values.
Legacy of Michelin expertise
Since 2001, ViaMichelin has utilised Michelin’s mobility expertise, establishing itself as a leading digital route planner, particularly successful in France. In 2023, the website and app recorded 300 million visits and 15 million unique users.
As Europe’s sole player for maps and route planning in 2024, ViaMichelin is available across Europe, with a website and app accessible in seven languages and 11 European countries.
