Continental EcoContact 7 arriving in 2 versions

Continental introduced its EcoContact 6 in autumn 2018, expanding the line-up approximately three years later with, the EcoContact 6 Q variant. Featuring an optimised tread design, this new addition aimed to reduce noise emissions while maintaining high-performance standards. The launch of the EcoContact 7 is imminent, Continental will offer this range in two versions from the outset. Both share the same tread design.
This even extends to the aero-dimple design in the shoulder area. Similar to the pattern found on golf balls, these small dimples decrease the tyre’s air resistance and enhance aerodynamics. Furthermore, Continental highlights the exceptionally low rolling resistance of both the EcoContact 7 and EcoContact 7 S models, along with reduced noise emissions thanks to the Urban Silent Pattern tread pattern. The tyre maker says it reduced the space between tread blocks to reduce noise, making these tyres the “ideal choice” for city trips. Additionally, a Smart Energy Casing substructure minimises energy loss while ensuring a high level of durability for both tyres.
Same look, different feel
But how do the two EcoContact 7 models differ? According to Continental, the sole distinction lies in the Green Chilli 3.0 rubber compound – although both tyres deliver low rolling resistance, they emphasise different qualities. Continental explains that whereas the EcoContact 7 compound focuses on fuel-saving efficiency, it developed the EcoContact 7 S compound to enhance driving dynamics.
This means that the ‘S’ version has the edge over the non-suffixed version and the previous generation tyre when it comes to sportiness, while Continental says all three are on par in terms of their wet-weather properties. In the dry, both new models boast improved performance compared to their predecessor as well as an even greater increase in comfort. In line with their respective foci, the EcoContact 7 outperforms the EcoContact 6 more clearly in terms of energy efficiency than the EcoContact 7 S does. The S, in turn, offers greater durability. Both tyres wear Continental’s EV-Compatible logo on the sidewall.
