Weather can’t spoil Westlake/NTDA golf day

Following the success of 2011’s event, Westlake Tyres once again sponsored the NTDA Annual Golf Day which was held at the world renowned The Belfry, four times host of the Ryder Cup and several European Tour events.

This year’s event was attended by various members of the NTDA, as well as by Surender Kandhari, Chairman of the Al Dobowi Group, Harjeev Kandhari, Executive Director of Al Dobowi, and special guest – young Spanish golf champion Virginia Espejo (sponsored by Westlake on the European Ladies tour), who held a special golf clinic on the day.

On this occasion, NTDA members had exclusive use of the world-famous Brabazon Course, the internationally recognised and revered championship course. The competition began with a shotgun start at 13:15, where the highest number of players ever (just under 100 golfers) competed for various trophies as well as ‘beat the Pro’, ‘nearest the pin’ and ‘longest drive’ competitions.

The typical English summer weather played its part when a torrential rainstorm hit the course forcing competitors to take cover for 10 minutes but, undeterred, the majority of players battled on in the conditions and completed their rounds, as the weather greatly improved later in the afternoon. 

Tyre brand to sponsor event again in 2013

The day’s golf was followed by an awards dinner, attended by nearly 130 people, at which Surender Kandhari committed Westlake once again to sponsor the 2013 NTDA Golf Day, confirming that it would “continue to get bigger and better next year”.

The prestigious Westlake trophy and black jacket was presented to the overall winner, Frank Burns of Viking International (the distributor of Westlake passenger tyres in the UK), and the Gorrill Cup for the top placed NTDA member was won by Martin Parkinson of Pang UK Ltd. The team winners of the Yellow Ball team competition was NTS (NW) Ltd.

Jorge Crespo, general manager of Eskay Tyres, distributor of the Westlake brand in the UK and several key European markets, said that “playing the Brabazon course was an unforgettable experience for all participants and Westlake is very happy to be associated with such a great event, bringing together the UK tyre business in a spirit of fun and camaraderie”.

The location and date for the 2013 Westlake sponsored NTDA golf day will be announced in the next few months.
