Yokohama wins OE fitments on new Mercedes-Benz SLK, CLS models

Date: 3rd June 2011 Author: Tyrepress Editors Comments: 0

Yokohama has announced that it has been awarded original equipment fitment contracts on new Mercedes-Benz SLK and CLS models produced at the car manufacturer’s German plant. The Advan Sport V105 has been selected for both the SLK-class two-seater roadster model and the CLS-class premium luxury four-door coupe models. The tyre was developed jointly by Yokohama and Mercedes-Benz (or Daimler), with the MO mark on the sidewall signifying the manufacturer’s approval. The V105 will be introduced into replacement markets around the world later, with the number of available sizes extended from the beginning of 2012 accordingly.

Yokohama says the new tyres deliver the high-speed stability of the Advan Sport V103, on which the V105 is based. Wet and dry handling and braking performance have been further improved, and a quiet ride and high level of comfort are finely balanced. As part of Yokohama Rubber’s policy to developing environmentally sound products, the tyre also exhibits both improved wear resistance and reduced rolling resistance. The mark of Yokohama Rubber’s new eco-tyre BluEarth is on each sidewall, to show its commitment to producing environmentally, human and socially friendly tyres.

These are the fifth and sixth Mercedes-Benz series to be factory-equipped with Yokohama Rubber’s tires. The first four were the CL 63 AMG, CL 65 AMG, ML-class AMG, C-class, C-class AMG.

Tyres for the CLS-class are in two sizes: 255/40R18 99Y XL and 285/35R18 97Y (the latter only for the rear). The CLS has been sold around the world since its European debut in January 2011. Since the first generation was launched in 2005, the newest CLS is the second generation, and is shaped like a coupe but with four doors.

Tyres for the SLK-class are in six sizes. The model has been sold around the world since its European debut in March 2011. Since the first generation was launched in 1996, the newest SLK model is the third generation. With electric retractable hardtop called “vario-roof”, this model is available as both a coupe and a convertible.
