Walkout Planned at Nokian Tyres Facility

Date: 22nd September 2009 Author: Tyrepress Editors Comments: 0

Workers at the Nokian Tyres factory in the company’s Finnish hometown are scheduled to stage a one-day walkout on September 23. According to Petri Sorvali, chief shop steward at the factory, the walkout will be held in protest against the company's restructuring programme.

The company has been transferring manufacturing operations to Russia, and further restructuring is still under consideration following the elimination of 265 jobs and the temporary laying off of more than 700 workers in Finland. A further aggravating factor behind the planned walkout, added Mr. Sorvali, is that Nokian management cancelled a meeting regarding the company’s plans for next year.
