GreenMan Technologies Delays Filing Year-End Results
GreenMan Technologies has announced that it expects to report “aggregate net loss for the fiscal year ended 30 September 2005 [of] between $14 and $15 million. The company also said it will delaying filing its 10-KSB for the year. According to the company, this will take no more than 30 days and is necessary for it to finalise the accounting treatment of the pending divestiture of its Georgia operation. Greenman is recycles over 20 million scrap tyres per year in the US.

Leading UK wholesale and retail tyre supplier, Stapletons Tyre Services is mourning the loss of one of its very first employees, Stuart Masson. Mr Masson sadly passed away peacefully on 29 October at the age of 84 - nine days short of his birthday. Born on November 7, 1920 in Eaton Bray, near Leighton Buzzard, Stuart approached Sydney Stapleton for a job at his new tyre shop on Watford High Street in 1937. At the tender age of 16, Stuart started his career at Stapletons as a clerk.

Analysts are expecting tyre manufacturers’ raw material prices to increase by 10 per cent in 2006 following a 15 per cent increase in 2005. The Deutsche Bank representatives also reported that the 2005 prices increases are “likely…to be more or less fully offset by selling price increases.”

Czech tyre maker Barum Continental produced 18.52 million passenger car tyres last year, a growth of 7 per cent year-on-year, company representative Pavel Pravec told the Prague Daily Monitor. Production of “high-tech” tyres is said to have grown the most, increasing 81 per cent to 2.42 million units in 2005. Barum also added 300 staff in 2005. The company, which now employs 4,448 people, also reportedly plans a further hike in staff numbers for this year.

Confusion over the difference between retreads and re-grooved tyres means retreads may not be phased out of the Malaysian market after all. The news comes after Malaysian transport Ministry Secretary General Datuk Mohd Safaruddin raised the hackles of retreaders worldwide, by reportedly saying that the use of retreaded tyres would be phased out of his country. Digging deeper it appears that the combination of the dishonest sales of regrooved tyres as re-treads and some language confusion has clouded the issue.

Sibur-Holding has completed the formation of Sibur-Russian Tires and has transferred stakes in companies to Sibur Russian Tyre’s books. Omskshina, Yarshina, Voltyre-Prom, Matador-Omskshina and Uralshina Saranskrezinotehnik now all come under the news name. “In 2008 the new holding is planned to be sold wholly or in parts, also a possibility of an IPO is considered,” Russian analysts added.

Cooper Tire & Rubber Company has named Rodney A Kreinbrink as plant manager for its Albany, Georgia, manufacturing facility. Kreinbrink will oversee the daily operations of Cooper’s 3rd largest plant, which produces about 11.5 million tyres per year and employs almost 1,600 people. Kreinbrink succeeds William Bonner who retired at the end of 2005.

Falcon Tyres Ltd has said it will seek shareholders’ approval through postal ballot for the proposed indirect change in control of the company. In a notice to the Bombay Stock Exchange, Falcon Tyres said shareholders approval was required pursuant to the acquisition of all the shares held by the company’s current backers. The board has appointed Gopinath M R, a practising company secretary, as the scrutiniser for the postal ballot, the notice said.
