Sino Legend reaches out to European and American tyre makers
Sino Legend (Zhangjiagang) Chemical Co., Ltd., purportedly the largest Asian manufacturer of resins for the tyre and rubber industries, has begun showcasing its state-of-the-art production facility as it looks to establish a greater presence in North American and European markets. The company broke ground on its Zhangjiagang City plant in mid-2007, located approximately 80 miles from Shanghai. Built with future global expansion in mind, the facility has already doubled its production volume owing to increased demand.

The US House of Representatives has joined the Senate in passing new legislation that would allow the government to impose higher tariffs on goods from state-controlled economies that subsidise exports to the US, reports Tire Review. The journal says the legislation targets the tyre industry in particular, and was drafted and presented in reaction to the December 2011 federal appeals court ruling that the Commerce Department did not have the power to levy so-called punitive countervailing duties, effectively tossing out a series of duties – some as high as 210 per cent – it placed on China-produced OTR and agricultural tyres imported into the US.

American Tire Distributors is building a new $6 million distribution centre in Illinois, reports Tire Review. Earlier this week, the Morton (Illinois) Economic Development Council voted unanimously to give ATD a two-year, 60 per cent property tax abatement in 2013 and 2014 to help it deal with soil problems on the 11-acre site selected for the new warehouse. Four other Morton taxing bodies must still approve the tax abatement, but it is expected to pass easily, according to local reports.

Italian brake manufacturer Tarox has launched its carbon ceramic ultra-high performance braking range. The new discs draw on the company’s motorsport experience, which extends to Formula One. The company says the new parts are marketed as aftermarket replacements for vehicles factory fitted with carbon ceramic discs and as specialist motorsport fitments alongside Tarox callipers. The range launched with 23 fitments, covering outside diameters from 283mm to 420mm and featuring a wide range of thicknesses from 26mm to 40mm. The range starts at £2210+VAT per disc.

FleetMatics GPS has illustrated how its systems have been used to improve the cost efficiency of businesses’ fleets. Growing customer demand led Surrey boiler services company, B&K Boilers Services to employ FleetMatics’ fleet management solutions for commercial fleet vehicles. The company employs 10 registered ‘Gas Safe’ fitters and their management depended on phone calls and check-ins at the office: “As each fitter can complete up to 10 jobs every day, that’s a lot of calls to answer in a week,” said Mr Worthington, B&K Boiler Services Owner. Since fitting the FleetMatics GPS fleet tracking system, Worthington has made scheduling of jobs more efficient, and he can better manage his fitters.
