In May Sheffield-based Pneumatic Components Ltd (PCL) launched what it calls the “The Daddy” of all half inch wrenches from its Prestige range of air tools. According to the company, the much-anticipated arrival is made to impress – PCL’s redesign of the popular APP203 provides a whopping 929Nm of torque, the highest power half-inch impact wrench in PCL’s extensive range.

A disapproving finger has been pointed at regrooved passenger car tyres in Malaysia. The country’s assistant infrastructure development minister, Pang Yuk Ming, has cited the use of regrooved tyres as a factor contributing to accidents in Malaysia. His comments were printed by Malaysia’s Daily Express newspaper.
You may have already heard that the Pagani Zonda R recently set the fastest lap time for a production car around Germany’s Nürburgring, but some news sources overlooked the modest hero of the day. As the Zonda R thundered around the Nordschleife circuit in Nürburgring, covering the 20.83 kilometres in 6 minutes 47 seconds – a second quicker than the previous record set last August – the Italian supercar benefitted from its P Zero Slick tyres, fitted in size 265/645-19TL for the front and 325/705-20TL at the rear.

Michelin has signed two 10-year contracts with the airlines Air France and KLM. Under the terms of these, Michelin tyres will be fitted on around 425 aircraft operated both by the Air France-KLM Group and by other airlines for which Air France and KLM provide maintenance services. These aircraft include 37 Boeing B777-300 ERs, 66 Boeing B737-NGs, 145 Airbus A320s and three Airbus A380s.

According to the “Indian Tyre Industry Analysis”, the Indian tyre industry is one of the fastest growing industries in the world.
India’s Kesoram Industries Ltd has notified the Bombay Stock Exchange of the declaration of a lockout at its Birla Tyres plant in Orissa as of July 16. This measure has been taken, the company says, in response to a strike that took place the previous day. In a corporate filing, Kesoram stated the workers “are forcibly squalling inside the factory premises of the said section in an illegal manner.”
MAI International has appointed Gianluca De Rosa as head of finance, effective 1 July 2010. In his new position, De Rosa will be responsible for all financial matters within the MAI Group. De Rosa (43) gained a degree in Economics, with honours, from the University of Verona and has subsequently held a number of senior financial positions in various business sectors, including a multinational food importer/exporter, a real estate business and as a chartered accountant. Said Ian Thomas, MAI Group CEO: "We are delighted to welcome Gianluca De Rosa to our senior management team and he brings a wealth of experience in his specialist field."
Last night saw the celebration of Dunlop Aircraft Tyres’ Centenary take place in earnest following an open day and a visit to the company’s Fort Dunlop plant by The Duke of York, with the launch of a new commemorative book, the premiere of a film by artist Angus Boulton commissioned to celebrate the centenary and the introduction of a new corporate video. The venue for the prestigious occasion was The Wapping Project, London’s last Hydraulic Power Station, now regenerated as a post-industrial exhibition space and restaurant by Australian theatre director, Jules Wright.
Following its appearance at Reifen 2010 in Essen and, just four weeks later, Italian radial OTR tyre manufacturer MAI International took part in the Latin American & Caribbean Tyre Expo, held on the other side of the world in Panama City. MAI Group CEO Ian Thomas declared the event "a great success", saying: "It was a terrific show for us and proved an ideal showcase for our MAXAM range of OTR tyres."
He went on: "This is the first time we have exhibited at a show in this region and, not only was there a lot of interest shown in our products, but we did some very good business and took a number of firm orders for tyres."
The first shipment of original equipment tyres left Apollo Tyres’ new factory in the city of Chennai. A batch of 500 Acelere passenger car tyres were despatched to Hyundai Motor India Limited on July 20. To mark the occasion, the Indian National flag and the Apollo flag were formally hoisted at the entrance of the Plant by Apollo’s chief of projects and unit head.
Cooper Tire has introduced two new ranges of high performance tyres intended for winter conditions, the WM-SA2 and WM-ST3. The manufacturer reports these newest members of Cooper’s high-performance line-up benefit from the latest state-of-the-art production technology and have been designed to offer firm footing on snow and slush.
The Imported Tyre Manufacturers’ Association has welcomed its second new member in less than a month. Nordexx, the house brand name of Britain’s NDI Tyre & Tube Supplies and of Denmark’s Nordisk Daek Import A – S has been welcomed by ITMA director Peter Taylor, who described NDI’s joining as further validation of the services ITMA provide to its members in what are very challenging times.
