ETRMA joins call for EUDR clarity & solutions

The European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers’ Association (ETRMA) has formally communicated with the EU Commission and Member States via a cross-commodity letter, urging for “urgent clarifications and workable solutions” in the implementation of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).
The coalition, representing various stakeholders including suppliers, operators, and traders, has voiced concerns regarding the pace at which EUDR-related legislative acts are being prepared, as well as the functionality of mandatory systems such as the Information System. Additionally, the coalition highlights the need for comprehensive guidance and clarifications to facilitate implementation by operators and traders, and enforcement by competent authorities.
The ETRMA calls for the provision of pending clarifications and necessary tools by the second quarter of 2024, claiming that failure to do so could potentially result in “disruptions in all commodity supply chains,” with unintended adverse effects on the availability of essential goods in the European market. In addition to tyres, these goods include but are not limited to food, feed, chemicals, packaging, hygiene products, automotive components, construction materials, furniture, bioenergy, and printed media.
