Michelin brings connected technology to agricultural tyres

Amongst the new releases at this year’s Agritechnica show were Michelin’s new connected agricultural tyres. The French manufacturer claims a world first with the launch of these electronic chip-equipped products and views them as a means of optimising performance. Stated benefits include better tyre management and traceability throughout the entire lifecycle, a means of communication between tyre, machine and user, and the ability to utilise smartphone-enhanced features such as Michelin Flash Services.

The abovementioned Michelin Flash Services will go live in spring 2016 and initially targets operators of tractors running on Michelin’s new AxioBib IF 900/65R46 and AxioBib IF 750/75R46 tyres. Michelin says subscribers to Michelin Flash Services will gain “customised support and exclusive benefits, free of charge, such as a visit by a Michelin expert to their farm, having their tractor and tools weighed, advice on ballasting and personalised tips.” It adds that the “simplicity, proximity and efficiency” these solutions provide will “enable farmers to optimise their work and thus improve the performance of their farm.”

“The new Michelin Flash Services offer will enable farmers to benefit from the innovation force of the Group. Their work will be facilitated and the performance of their farm will be improved,” comments Emmanuel Ladent, director of Michelin’s agricultural product line.
