Cooper JV Plant Earns 9001:2008 Quality Certification

Date: 17th January 2011 Author: Admin Comments: 0

The Mexico based Corporacion de Occidente joint venture, 58 per cent owned by Cooper Tire & Rubber, has earned the ISO 9001:2008 quality certification, joining six other Cooper Tire facilities – the company’s manufacturing facilities in Melksham plus its Findlay, Texarkana and Tupelo plants in the US plus its Cooper Kenda Tire joint venture in China and the Tall Timbers Mold Operations facility in Findlay – that hold this designation.

“I am extremely pleased to receive this certification,” said Corporacion de Occidente general manager Jeff Schumaker. “All of the people at Corporacion de Occidente, with great support from Cooper’s Corporate Quality group, worked together very closely to make this happen. For Corporacion de Occidente, this is another step in our transformation from a startup plant to a competitive, capable manufacturing facility. For Cooper, this completes a project we started several years ago in which all tire manufacturing facilities have achieved ISO 9001 quality certification. Our entire company has a solid foundation from which to improve.”

In addition, the corporate Materials Lab and corporate Tire Testing have earned ISO 17025 testing and calibration certification. Cooper facilities already certified to ISO 14001 environmental management system standards are the Findlay, Texarkana and Tupelo tyre manufacturing plants and Tall Timbers Mold Operations facility, plus the Cooper Chengshan Tire joint venture in Rongchen City, China. “This latest certification demonstrates Cooper’s strict adherence to the highest quality standards, throughout the organisation, whether we’re operating in the US, in Mexico, in Europe or in China,” said Cooper chairman and CEO Roy V. Armes. “Certification serves as a third-party confirmation of our ongoing commitment to quality and continuous improvement.”
