SMMT Publication Launched

Date: 12th January 2005 Author: Admin Comments: 0

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders has launched its annual publication “Motor Industry Of Great Britain – 2004 World Automotive Statistics”.

At nearly 500 pages, the report contains its usual comprehensive, in-depth examination of various aspects of the market, including detailed analysis of car and other vehicle sales. And not just vehicles, as the report contains details of numerous components, including tyres.

As such, the reader can easily find out that, in 2003, nearly 12.7 million car tyres were exported to EU countries, with a further 1.688 million to other European states. Equally, if you want to know how many car tyres were exported to Uzbekistan or Hong Kong, then the information is all there. The figures, incidentally, were one and 25,641. By contrast to Hong Kong, China imported 2,992 tyres from the UK during 2003.

The SMMT report is undoubtedly the most comprehensive on the motor industry and it gives historical trends and details of vehicles in use. Thus, we learn that the number of cars per 1,000 people in Papua New Guinea is seven, compared with 464 in the USA. In short, if there is anything that you want to know about the world’s motor industry, then this is the publication for you.

“Motor Industry Of Great Britain – 2004 World Automotive Statistics” is available from the SMMT, priced £125 for members and £165 for non-members.
