Premium tyre makers top ADAC 2015 summer tyre test – eco tyres compare poorly with non-eco counterparts

German motoring association ADAC and consumer organisation Stiftung Warentest have jointly tested 35 size 185/60 R14 H and size 205/55 R16 V tyres for their latest summer tyre test. The second-mentioned size is the country’s most-sold tyre size for mid-class cars, and the ADAC notes that four pairs of these 205/55 R16 V tyres were evaluated as part of the test. Each pair was an eco/comfort product from the same manufacturer, and placing them back to back gave an additional insight into their respective strengths and weaknesses.

Eco tyres a Lanxess primary focus, says CEO

In a guest editorial for Reuters, Lanxess CEO Axel Heitmann has described low rolling resistance tyres as being a primary focus for the specialty chemicals company. “As the fastest growing sector in the tyre industry, “green tyres” have enormous growth potential and increase globally by around ten per cent per year. In Asia demand is currently increasing by as much as 14 per cent annually,” he stated. “Our position is therefore clear: Lanxess will continue to build on its leading position and expand its production capacities, particularly in Asia.” Heitmann expanded upon the Asian theme by sharing that Lanxess will produce 140,000 tonnes of Nd-PBR-rubber per annum at a new site in Singapore by 2015.

Eco Tyres the Focus of Latest European Tyre Test

Bridgestone and Nokian are both chuffed with their tyres’ performance in the latest tyre test to be published by a German car magazine, and they’re not ashamed to mention this. The test in question was published in the August 8 edition of Auto Bild and compares the performance of five eco tyres – the Pirelli Cinturato P7, Bridgestone Turanza ER300 Ecopia, Nokian V, Goodyear EfficientGrip and Michelin Energy Saver. The quintet of size 205/55 R16 green products were fitted to a C-Class Mercedes and subjected to a number of wet and dry performance tests, while fuel consumption was measured with a highly precise in-car meter at speeds of 80, 100 and 130 kph. Rolling resistance was also measured in a test facility.

Volvo Trucks opt for Conti Eco Tyres

Continental Tire North America has announced that its Eco Plus truck tyres are now a published option at all Volvo Truck dealerships nationwide.

We are very pleased that this premium line of tyres is now also available at Volvo dealerships for fleets trying to find a way to lower their operating costs.”

Sailun equips Vollers E-truck with EcoPoint3 tyres

In the landscape of modern fleet management, increasing demand within the local public transport and freight haulage sectors underscores the significance of electric propulsion. While the focus on electric vehicles extends beyond cars, the common challenge of optimising range persists across all vehicle types. This poses a pertinent question for operators of electric trucks: How to maximise range without resorting to simply installing larger batteries? The answer lies in a critical but sometimes overlooked component – tyres.

Tyre Reviews highly recommends 4 all-season tyres

All-season tyres are a logical choice for smaller vehicles primarily used in urban areas, and for this reason, it is surprising that few tyre tests focus on fitments for cars such as these. Tyre Reviews addressed this in its 2023 all-season test, looking at ten tyres in size 195/65 R15. Site founder and resident tester Jonathan Benson fitted these to a VW Golf 7 and evaluated the tyres’ performance in dry, wet and snowy conditions as well as for comfort and value.

No recommendation for 5 tyres in Autozeitung all-season test

It’s not uncommon for motoring clubs or magazines to withhold their recommendation when testing tyres, but they typically reserve this cautionary result for low-priced candidates that struggle to compete against premium and mid-range rivals. But Autozeitung has declined to recommend no less than five tyres in its 2023 all-season test – more than half the entire field – including products from known names.

SUV tyres – Auto Bild Allrad highly recommends 4 products

In the preamble to its 2023 winter tyre test, SUV and 4x4 specialist publication Auto Bild Allrad argues that tyres play an even more important role than all-wheel drive when piloting a vehicle in wintry conditions. While employing four driving wheels instead of two undoubtedly improves traction, this only represents one aspect of vehicle safety – when it comes to braking and negotiating curves, tyres are decisive.

AutoBild Allrad recommends 4 ‘exemplary’ all-season SUV tyres

AutoBild Allrad’s 2023 test of 10 all-season SUV tyres gave four tyres the top “exemplary” grade, with two joint-winners. In Germany, all-season tyres have grown with the most recent product generations’ improved technology, despite the traditional strength of its seasonal tyre change market. The magazine, one of Germany’s leading consumer automotive publications, said the top-ranking tyres in its latest test have “matured into true heroes of road traffic.” At the other end of the scale, three of the size 235/65 R17 108 V/W tyres were described as “not recommended”, while three other tyres gained “satisfactory” and “good” final verdicts. So which all-season products could AutoBild Allrad “unreservedly recommend” to motorists?
