Yokohama BluEarth gets FAW Toyota EV sedan bZ3 OE fitment in China
Yokohama began delivering its BluEarth-GT AE51 tyres in February as original equipment for the new bZ3 electric vehicle (EV) sedan sold in China by FAW Toyota Motor Co Ltd (FAW Toyota). The manufacturer is supplying the tyre in sizes 215/65R16 98H and 225/50R18 95V. The bZ3 was jointly developed by BYD Toyota EV Technology Co, Ltd, a joint venture established by Toyota Motor Corporation and BYD Company Ltd, and FAW Toyota.

Huasheng Rubber releases electric vehicle tyres
At the 2023 Guangrao tyre exhibition, Huasheng Rubber held a press conference and released a variety of electric vehicle tyres. Tyrepress China learned at the press conference that the new electric vehicle tyres released by the tyre manufacturer cover PCR and TBR. Passenger car tyres include three products: ultra-quiet series, self-repairing series and colourful customised series. The ultra-quiet series products use new polyurethane foam mute cotton material with an excellent silent effect. Compared with ordinary products on the market, the noise of this product is reduced by 6-10 decibels. Self-repairing series products can maintain stable performance between minus 35 and 120 degrees Celsius. Colourful customised series tyres are designed to meet the market’s demand for trends.

SimpleTire loses 1 million customer records in data breach
At the end of May, Cybersecurity Researcher, Jeremiah Fowler, announced that he had discovered “a non-password protected database that contained over a million customer records.” They were SimpleTire customer order confirmations, which – according to Fowler – “exposed…the customer’s name, phone number, physical address and partial credit card number with expiration dates.”

Owen Phillips, Cambrian Tyres operations manager, dies suddenly
Owen Phillips, the operations manager at UK motorcycle tyre distributor Cambrian Tyres, has passed away. The company announced the news via its Facebook page, saying the Cambrian team is deeply saddened at the “huge loss” of a highly valued, integral, and longstanding colleague and friend. In addition to his role with Cambrian Tyres, Phillips had risen to the rank of Sergeant with the local cadets squadron and was “immensely proud of his achievements with the group.” The company extended its thoughts to Phillips’ family and friends: “He will be a huge loss to the CT family, and the local community. Rest in peace Owen, you are already sorely missed.”

550 jobs go in Fulda as Goodyear cuts tyre production there by 50%
Goodyear is cutting up to 50 per cent of the jobs at its tyre factory in Fulda, Germany, which will result in “a similar sized” cut in tyre production, the tyre manufacturer announced today. Since around 1100 people are employed at the Fulda tyre factory, that means around 550 jobs will be cut. The news comes as a result of Goodyear’s review of its manufacturing footprint.

On May 17, 2023, the three-day 13th China (Guangrao) International Rubber Tire & Auto Accessory Exhibition (ChinaGRTAE 2023) ended, with Chinese language Tyrepress sister site, Tyrepress China in attendance. An organiser press conference on the last day of the show claimed that ChinaGRTAE 2023 had achieved outstanding results. According to preliminary statistics, more than 830 trade intentions, agreements, and contracts were reached on May 15th and 16th, exceeding 21.9 billion yuan. One special event hosted by the exhibition achieved more than 330 “one-to-one” negotiations, reaching an intention amount of 2.3 billion yuan.

France’s first EV battery factory opens
