Bandengroothandel Mast: Heavy Tyres, Heavy Interest

This year’s Reifen show proved to be yet another successful international event for Netherlands based tyre wholesaler – Bandengroothandel Mast, who used the event to announce the company’s increasing specialisation in large harbour and quarry tyres. Directors, Wim and Sander Mast point out that Mast has been working with these large industrial tyres for specific port and quarry use for the past two years and it is the company’s firm intention to establish itself as a leading specialist in all sizes for harbour activities as well as the extreme sizes suitable for heavy mining use.

Hi-Q Invests in Training Centres

Hi-Q has invested “heavily” in the re-development of its three national training centres. The training facilities in Slough, Leeds and Dudley provide on-going professional training to employees based throughout the UK. Facilities over the three sites include e-learning zones, ramp areas, functioning tyre changing facilities and a fully equipped mock up reception area.

New Bandag Winter Tread

Until recently, Bandag’s winter traction product range featured five treads. However, changes in winter driving conditions in the north of Europe prompted Bandag to develop a new winter traction tread that would be perfectly suited to the emerging requirements in this region; the BDR-W.

When Bandag was developing its new winter traction tread, it relied extensively on the expert advice of the best consultants in winter tyre technology: the end-users in the Nordic region who battle winter conditions for almost six months a year. In addition, research had highlighted a series of other needs and problems, which were also tackled in the development of the Bandag BDR-W.

Michelin: “Energy Tyres Best for Wear and Running Costs”

Michelin Energy tyres last longer and therefore cost less per mile, according to the French manufacturer. However independent French magazine Auto-Plus has now published comparison test results which Michelin says prove its assertions. The test results show that the Michelin Energy E3A tyres offered 20 per cent more life than the next best brand and 60 per cent more life than the most expensive tyre.

Just Tyres Opens Another Branch

Just Tyres is to open a new branch in Leeds – their third of 2006. The company is pursuing a rapid expansion programme this year, and more openings are said to be planned for the near future. Geographically, the company has consolidated its presence in Surrey and Yorkshire, but it also branched out into Cambridgeshire in May and is due to open another depot in the county very soon.

‘Driving While Listening to Football is Dangerous’

Driving while listening to football (particularly penalty shoot outs!) is as dangerous as using a mobile phone a new survey reports. According to the poll conducted by online insurance broker motorinsurance.co.uk UK roads must have been dangerous places to be throughout the game against Portugal on Saturday.

Firestones on New Jeep Model

(Akron/Tire Review) The 2007 Jeep Compass line will feature Firestone brand tyres. The Jeep Compass Sport and Limited models will carry Firestone Affinity T4 and Firestone Firehawk GTA03. The Affinity tyres will come in size P215/60R17 95T, while Firehawks will be mounted in size P215/55R18 94T.

Zisser Tire’s Increasing European Presence

North Hants Tyres: Over Half a Century of Service

North Hants Tyres has been at the forefront of the Antique and Classic tyre scene for over 50 years, and with its many supply sources, is one of the leading suppliers in this small, but thriving, niche market.

When North Hants Tyres was first starting out just after the Second World war, there was a shortage of new tyres, so many used or ex-War Department tyres were sold to fill the market. As time progressed, the New Old Stock tyres became older and perished, and with the advent of motorways, became unserviceable. Also, by this time, radials were becoming more popular, and the old crossply 16″, 17″ 18″ and 19″ tyres fell out of favour. So it was left to restorers, or tyre retailers who had an interest in the vintage scene, to find and produce the tyres for these vehicles.

Continental Investing in Romania Tyre Distribution Centre

(Akron/Tire Review) Continental AG is working with German air-freight specialists Dietrich-Honold Logistik and Honold Logistik Group has started the construction of a tyre distribution centre near Timisoara, Romania. The centre is planned to service Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

JK Industries MD Receives Doctorate

Mr Raghupati Singhania, vice chairman and managing director of JK Industries Limited has received an honorary doctorate in science at the seventeenth convocation of Mohanlal Sukhadia University at Udaipur by Her Excellency, Smt. Pratibha Patil, Governor of Rajasthan. The degree was conferred in recognition of Mr Singhania’s contributions towards encouraging education, training and research activities in Rubber and Allied industries in India.

Do New Brooms Sweep Cleaner?

In October 2005, the Beissbarth Automotive Group was bought by the Société Générale Capital Europe and Mark Hüsges (35) became the Group’s CEO. So, with a new owner and new management – where does Beissbarth go from here?

Says Mark Hüsges: “The restructuring phase of the last 2 – 3 years is now behind us, and I now view developments as positive, though we are still facing a lot of work. The company is new, and its re-alignment will be new as well. Visitor Numbers Reach New High

Arguably the world’s largest tyre trade exhibition, Reifen Messe Essen 2006 was the biggest show in the history of the exhibition. The 24th show since the exhibition premiered in 1960, this year’s event attracted 17,100 tyre specialists (up 8 per cent) from over 80 countries, according to the organisers. In amongst the 473 suppliers (up 15 per cent) from 42 countries, a handful of UK wholesalers (Bond International, King’s Road Tyres, Kirkby Tyres, Treadsetters, and North West Tyres) led the way for the 22-strong British company contingent.

Banks Abandon Pirelli IPO at Last Minute

Banks advising Pirelli Tyre on its initial public offering withdrew the company from floatation at the last minute (30 June). The state of the Italian floatation market was blamed for the decision. Pirelli Tyre had been scheduled to make its debut on the Milan stock exchange on Wednesday 5th July, and was valued at between 1.9 and 2.3 billion euros.

Goodway Building Recognition

Since being founded in 1990, Goodway Rubber Industries Sdn Bhd has made deep inroads into the highly established rubber industry. Company spokesman Raymond Lee described Goodway’s recent appearance at the Reifen 06 exhibition as the company “standing tall among the biggest industry names at the internationally acclaimed fair,” adding: “we made quite an impact with our various brands and offerings”.
