Charlie Robertson joins Ginetta team

18 year old Charlie Robertson has been named as Ginetta’s second Factory Driver, after signing a five year deal to join the race car manufacturer’s in-house development team.

Robertson will join current works driver Mike Simpson on the Ginetta driving roster as the pair continue the development of the Ginetta motorsport fleet. Not only that, but Robertson will join Ginetta Chairman Lawrence Tomlinson and Simpson for selected races throughout 2016.

With experience beyond his years, Charlie’s unique knowledge will be made available to Ginetta customers across the globe. He will be available for driver coaching and as a Pro driver for all levels of racer looking to emulate his success.

Said Lawrence Tomlinson, Ginetta Chairman; “Charlie is one of the brightest young motorsport talents in the business and we are delighted to have him on board with us for the next five years. He is the epitome of what the Ginetta ladder can do for a young driver. There is no denying he has a successful future ahead of him.”

For his part,Charlie Robertson said; “I am delighted to be joining Ginetta as their Official Factory Driver. I’ve been a part of the Ginetta family since I was 16 and without them, I undoubtedly wouldn’t be where I am today. I’m really looking forward to moving into this, the next phase of my professional motorsport career and I’m incredibly grateful to Lawrence for the opportunity.”

The BRDC SuperStar made his name as part of the Ginetta family in 2012 when he was crowned the Ginetta Junior Champion; a result he followed up with almost unchallenged victory in the2014 Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup two years later.

Continuing to ascend the Ginetta career ladder, Robertson made racing history alongside Ginetta and Olympic cycling legend Sir Chris Hoy last season. The pair piloted the Team LNT Ginetta-Nissan LMP3 to a class victory in the inaugural European Le Mans Series LMP3 class.
Charlie was on hand to unveil Ginetta’s newest car, the Ginetta G57 at the Autosport Show on January 14. The teenager has been instrumental in the car’s development alongside Tomlinson and Ginetta Factory driver, Mike Simpson.
