Tyre Dumping is a World-wide Problem
Just to prove the point that tyre dumping is a global problem, in New Zealand Auckland’s northern regions are promising a crackdown on the illegal dumping of tyres. North Shore city and Rodney district councils are warning they will crack down on the people who have dumped around a thousand used tyres in parks and reserves in the past few months.
They say collecting the tyres and sending them to recyclers is costing ratepayers thousands of dollars, and native plants are being damaged. Rodney District Council spokesman Mike Isle says nobody wants tyres dumped in the regions. He says a few tyre-dumping culprits might soon get a few surprises as the councils know the identity of many of them.
