Treadsetters, part of the TIA Group of companies, has named Craig Holdsworth as sales manager. Holdsworth will be focusing on the development and implementation of the company’s strategy for new and existing dealerships in its OTR/agricultural product range, working closely with the head office sales and marketing teams.
Apollo Vredestein’s UK subsidiary has chosen Treadsetters to handle the sale and distribution of its Apollo truck and bus tyre range across England, Scotland and Wales. Apollo’s debut in Europe’s competitive TBR tyre segment was barely one year ago. The new distribution arrangement represents a change in strategy; the manufacturer had initially said the brand would be available directly from Apollo through an e-commerce system. Apollo Vredestein states the decision to partner with Treadsetters will aid in achieving the tyre manufacturer’s strategy of rapid TBR growth by combining its product range with a highly efficient and experienced distribution partner in the UK.
Coventry-based car panel OE supplier Covpress entered administration at the end of September, with administrators stressing there are no current plans for redundancies amongst the 800 staff. Rather there is a good chance the business will be sold as a going concern. So far around 50 companies are said to have expressed an interest. But with business on the up at Covpress, could a deflated Chinese tyre business be behind the news?

Manufactured by Shandong Yongtai, the Durun brand announced the foundation of a UK distribution company at Brityrex. Qingdao Durun International Trade Co deputy general manager, Chuanbo ‘Woody’ Yan told Tyres & Accessories that the manufacturer considered using a British portal to sell and market the brand in the UK an “opportunity” to develop Durun via a different route to other Chinese tyre importers.
Treadsetters (Part of the TIA Group) won the best stand award at this year’s Brityrex 2014 Show. Having gone with the primary objective of promoting the company’s high tyre and wheel brands, winning the award was described as an “unexpected bonus”.
Falken Tyres’ presence in the UK truck tyre replacement market is currently described as “small compared to many of its competitors”, but according to its UK director Matt Smith, strong customer feedback from early adopters means it is well positioned for growth.

UK and international tyre wholesaler, Treadsetters has recently been appointed as a UK distributor for the Falken tyre range – a move that it says enhances “significantly” its commercial tyre operation. The company says the Sumitomo-manufactured Falken brand joins Goodride and a number of specially selected mid-range and premium brands. The Shropshire-based wholesaler states that it has enjoyed a “very progressive trading period” in the last couple of years. As well as steadily increasing its product portfolio the company has also received a number of business accolades and were recently placed 59th in the Sunday Times International Track 200 list.
China’s Shandong Yongtai Chemical Group, manufacturer of the Durun tyre brand and the DMack tyres used in the World Rally Championship, and UK tyre wholesaler Treadsetters have jointly acquired automotive supplier Covpress. The two companies are believed to have paid £30 million to buy the Coventry-based firm, which employs around 450 people and manufactures body panels for vehicle manufacturers such as Jaguar Land Rover, Nissan and Renault. Chinese and UK media sources report Shandong Yongtai will hold a 70 per cent stake in Covpress and TIA Group company Treadsetters the remaining 30 per cent.
