4x4/SUV and UHP markets continued to grow in 2018 As part of our review of 2018, Tyres & Accessories asked market research specialists to give an overview of some of the key trends that have taken place in the UK car, 4x4 and light truck replacement tyre market trends during the course of the year. In doing so, we have a good foundation for looking forward into 2019 and beyond. What we found was that UK tyre replacement market is increasingly high-performance and increasingly high-value. GfK’s Panelmarket data compares the period between November 2016 and October 2017 with November 2017 to October 2018. Ten winter SUV tyres – from premium brands to a so-called “budget tyre from the Far East” – were put to the test in this year’s comparative evaluation from Auto Bild Allrad. The German 4x4/SUV publication examined size 235/60 R18 107H/V products, fitting the tyres to an Audi Q5 for testing in wet, dry and snow disciplines. Happily, the testers found no truly dreadful tyres within the candidates’ ranks.

Called the Frigo SUV2, the newcomer is described as a “wallet-friendly tyre that is suitable for all winter conditions.” It joins the Frigo 2 and Frigo HP2 in the Dębica winter portfolio and will be available in six sizes. The first three come to market this month and a further two are scheduled to launch before the end of the year.
