Gulf and its Heritage Partner, ROFGO, are celebrating an incredible win at the world’s foremost GT race, the Spa 24 Hours. The Porsche 911 GT3R, run by the GPX race team for ROFGO, was entered for the race relatively late in the day, with support from Porsche itself, who supplied three factory drivers specially for the event.
Dunlop will follow its successes in the first round of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) with round two in Belgium this Saturday. Spa’s infamous microclimate means that teams need to prepare for all conditions, Paul Bryant, international event manager at Dunlop Motorsport, explains: “Spa has always been one of the most unpredictable events of the year. We have been able to analyse the data from the Silverstone race and can work with our teams to improve the performance of the car and tyre packages. That’s particularly valuable in LMP2 where, due to the newness of the cars, our pre-season knowledge is limited.”
Pirelli has concluded its investigation into Sebastian Vettel’s tyre failure in the closing stages of the Belgian grand prix. The exclusive Formula One tyre supplier stated its technical analysis had found no structural problem with the tyres used at Spa, and the blowout that ended Vettel’s race came as the result of exceptional “combined effect of debris on the track and prolonged tyre usage on a circuit that is particularly demanding.”
With 9000 tyres transported by 21 trucks, and involving 90 Pirelli personnel on the ground as well as many more away from the circuit, Pirelli will face its biggest logistical engagement in motorsport this weekend at the Spa 24 Hours. The Blancpain GT Series highlight will see Pirelli fly in motorsport staff from Italy, expertise from countries as far afield as the United States, Brazil, Argentina and Australia – all territories where the manufacturer has a key presence in major GT or stock car championships. Pirelli is the exclusive supplier to the Blancpain series.
Pirelli has confirmed the 2015 tyre choices up to its home grand prix in Italy, with a third outing of 2015 for the P Zero Orange hard tyre at Silverstone. The fast British circuit, next on the agenda for Formula One, will see Pirelli supply its P Zero White medium too, meaning the hardest tyres in the line-up will be utilised for the second time in two years.
The second round of the FIA World Endurance Championship will take place at Belgium’s Spa-Francorchamps circuit, and Dunlop hopes to help the G-Drive Racing team to hold on to first and second places following their first-second finish at Silverstone earlier this month.
Following a three-week break the 2014 Formula One season will resume at the fan-favourite Spa-Francorchamps circuit. Pirelli will supply its P Zero White medium and P Zero Yellow soft tyres, a softer choice compared to last year – the exclusive tyre supplier says this allocation is designed to promote different strategies on what is, at 7km, the longest lap of the year.
Pirelli has announced its compounds for the Formula One grands prix in Belgium, Italy and Singapore. At Spa, one of F1’s most spectacular and demanding circuits, Nico Rosberg, Lewis Hamilton and the increasingly distant chasing pack will use the P Zero White and Yellow medium and soft tyres suited to Belgium’s the varied track and weather conditions.
