Bridgestone, Hankook & Pirelli tyres for Škoda’s first all-electric vRS

The first entirely electric Škoda to wear the brand’s go-fast vRS badge arrives in UK showrooms this week. This is of course the Škoda Enyaq Coupé iV vRS, a 299PS EV capable of completing the 0-62mph sprint in just 6.5 seconds and achieving a top speed of 111mph. Enyaq Coupé iV vRS models are equipped with black 20-inch Taurus wheels as standard or optional 21-inch Vision wheels with an anthracite finish. Original equipment tyres come courtesy of Bridgestone, Hankook or Pirelli.

Hankook tyres OE on all-electric SUV Škoda Enyaq iV

Hankook has continued the expansion of its original equipment portfolio for electric vehicles (EV). The manufacturer will supply the electric Škoda Enyaq iV with Ventus S1 evo 3 ev tyres specially developed for electric cars. The partnership follows Hankook’s existing OE deal with the Volkswagen Group to supply the same tyres to the Volkswagen ID.4. Depending on the model variant of Škoda’s first electric SUV, sizes 18 to 20 inches are available. Hankook joins Bridgestone in supplying the Enyaq iV, with the latter offering its Enliten Technology enabled Turanza Eco, Tyrepress sister site WhatTyre’s Eco Tyre of the Year 2022.

Bridgestone Turanza Eco a Škoda Enyaq iV fitment

As part of an ongoing partnership with Škoda, Bridgestone has developed tyres featuring its Enliten technology for the all-electric Škoda Enyaq iV. Bridgestone is supplying Turanza Eco tyres for the SUV in either size 235/55 R19 101T; 235/50 R20 100T (front axle or all-round) and 255/45 R20 101T (rear); or for cars delivered with 21-inch rims, 235/45 R21 101T XL (front or all-round) and 255/40 R21 102T XL (rear). The tyre maker also offers Škoda an 18-inch tyre that is not fitted to UK-spec models.

£193m out of court settlement reached in VW Group Emissions case

Solicitors Slater and Gordon has announced that an out of court settlement has been reached in the Volkswagen NOx Emissions Group Litigation, whereby £193m will be made to the claimants by the Volkswagen Group, plus a separate contribution towards the Claimants’ legal costs and fees.

Volkswagen halts Russian production, imports

Volkswagen AG has stopped the production of vehicles in Russia until further notice. This decision applies to the site in Kaluga, which produced the VW Tiguan, Polo and Škoda Rapid and made 118,000 vehicles last year, as well as Nizhny Novgorod, where it built VW and Škoda models under a contract with GAZ Group. Vehicle exports to Russia have also been stopped with immediate effect.

Second VW Group fitment for AA-rated GitiSynergyH2

The first tyre produced by Giti Tire to attain A grade wet grip and fuel economy on the EU label tyre has secured its second VW Group fitment in as many months. This time, the Skoda Karoq will roll off factory lines on the GitiSynergyH2 in size 225/55R17 97V. The mid-sized SUV joins the light commercial Volkswagen Caddy 5 in selecting the version of the new tyre, specially developed in cooperation with the VW Group. The tyre is due to receive its aftermarket launch in March 2021, and will replace the GitiSynergyE1 and GitiPremiumH1, with which Giti launched its brand in Europe in 2016.

Yokohama OE on Russian-made Škoda Kodiaq

Starting in April 2018, Yokohama tyres are being fitted as original equipment to Škoda Kodiaq SUVs produced and sold in Russia. The Yokohama BluEarth-A AE-50 is being supplied in two sizes, 235/55R18 100V and 215/65R17 99V.

Nexen Tire is supplying itsN’blue HD Plus tyre to Volkswagen, Seat and Skoda. The company’s N’blue HD Plus in size 215/45R17 91W will be fitted to the upgraded Volkswagen Polo. The same tyre in sizes 205/60R16 92V and 215/60R16 95V was selected for the Volkswagen T-Roc, a new compact SUV manufactured in Portugal.

Falken tyres OE on Skoda Superb

Czech car maker Skoda, part of the VW Group since 1991, has chosen Falken Ecorun for its Superb saloon model. The most popular mid-size car is now fitted with Falken‘s Ziex ZE914 Ecorun tyres as standard.

The new Superb features a Euro 6 engine and is up to 30 per cent more economical on fuel. Falken believes Skoda’s choice of Ziex Ecorun rubber as its OEM tyres, supplied by Falken Tyre Europe to the production facility at Kvasiny in the Czech Republic in size 215/55R17 94W ZE914 A EC fits this philosophy.

Two Continental tyres chosen for newest Škoda Superb

The market launch for the latest-generation Škoda Superb is imminent, and Continental reports that two of its tyre models have been selected as original equipment on the luxury saloon. The ContiEcoContact 5 and ContiPremiumContact 5 have both been approved for fitment on the Škoda flagship. Effective immediately, size 215/55 R 17 V versions of the two tyre lines will be shipped to Škoda’s plant in Kvasiny, Czech Republic.

Škoda vehicle production reaches 17,000,000

Škoda has produced their 17 millionth vehicle. The jubilee car – a Škoda Rapid Spaceback in ‘Corrida Red’ – ran off the production line at the Škoda headquarters in Mladá Boleslav. The vehicle is going to a customer in Germany. This production milestone is a highlight of the Czech carmaker’s successful growth strategy. In 2014 Škoda manufactured and sold more than 1 million cars for the first time during a single year in the company’s 120-year history. Over the coming years, Škoda plans to increase sales to at least 1.5 million per year.
