Key Rema Tip Top aftermarket partner Corghi has continued to create headlines through product innovation over the past year, winning both the ‘Equip Auto 2015 Golden Trophy’ and ‘Reifen 2016 Innovation award’ for the Corghi Uniformity. This tyre changer is exclusively sold through Rema Tip Top in Great Britain and is acclaimed as the world’s first tyre changer with diagnostic functionality.
The Tyre Industry Awards have been presented for 2016 during the sold-out NTDA Annual Dinner, this year hosted by the Vox Conference Centre on the site of Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre. In addition to the various gongs, the NTDA presented Sir Tom Farmer with the National Chairman’s Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Tyre Industry, sponsored by Hankook UK, while Brian Funnell and Lennie Wells were also made NTDA Honorary Life Members. Presented by television personality Suzi Perry, the winners were decided by a panel of leading industry judges, and the results live-tweeted by Tyrepress via its Twitter feed.
Following its acquisition of a “significant interest” in the Cobra Group/Depreux in the second half of 2015, Rema Tip Top has now increased its stake in the French conveyor belt manufacturer to 100 per cent. Financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed.
Rema Tip Top UK’s corporate golf day was bigger and better following the success of the 2015 event, the parts and equipment supplier stated. Employees and their automotive and industrial customers played two rounds of golf and enjoyed a three course meal at Rudding Park in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.
Rema Tip Top reports the acquisition of Norwegian distributor Flexpro AS. The conveyor systems and plant component specialist entered the Rema Tip Top fold on 1 January; the two companies have “agreed to preserve silence” on the acquisition’s financial details.
As of March 2016, the Board of Directors at Rema Tip Top AG will double in size through the appointment of Thorsten Wach and Udo Zimmer. Thorsten Wach will take on the role of chairman and Udo Zimmer that of financial director.
Tyre Industry Awards 2015 winner Rema Tip Top has opened its new tyre repair and garage equipment training centre following significant investment in Leeds headquarters. Hosting Tyres & Accessories at a launch event in October, immediately after its NTDA 2015 Tyre Industry Award for Tyre and Aftermarket Supplier of the Year, the company showed how the site has been entirely refitted, having lain derelict for around half a decade before the acquisition of Doncaster’s Ace Conveyor Equipment in 2008 and subsequent consolidation of the industrial business. The new centre will provide accreditation for the new generation of tyre technicians, with an expanding variety of courses delivered over one or two days. Rema Tip Top chief executive Mark Insley stated: “We recognise the importance of education and training to an industry which is responsible for the safety of millions of people on our roads on a daily basis. With this well-equipped and highly professional facility we will provide an invaluable resource for our customers.”
Receiving the TIA for Tyre and Aftermarket Supplier of the Year at the 86th NTDA Annual Dinner for the second consecutive year, Rema Tip Top Automotive UK stated that it was “incredibly honoured” to have secured the vote by an independent industry panel.
Messe Essen’s Reifen show will be the epicentre of the global tyre industry from 24 to 27 May 2016. The event organiser has confirmed that the 20 largest tyre manufacturers in the world will be present, including key players such as Bridgestone, Continental, Cooper Tires, Goodyear, Falken Tyre Europe, Hankook, Maxxis, Michelin, Pirelli and Yokohama. The demand for stand space for workshop equipment providers is also growing, according to Messe Essen: Corghi, Rema Tip Top and Snap-on will all be amongst the exhibitors.
The winners of the 2015 Tyre Industry Awards were announced during the 86th NTDA Annual Dinner on 1 October following the new one-day Tyre Industry Conference at the International Convention Centre (ICC), Birmingham. Attendance at the dinner set a new record, with 60 tables sold out. The speaker and presenter of the awards was former England Rugby Union international, amateur dancer and current television pundit, Austin Healey, who added some trademark irreverence to proceedings. The Awards were also live-tweeted as they were announced on the @Tyrepress Twitter feed. The awards were sponsored this year by Sailun Tyres.

The technology provides an accurate report on the condition of all four tyres (plus spare wheel) via its bluetooth transmission in under a minute.
